Job Description:

Reporting to the Monitoring and Investigation Section Head, he/she will be responsible for conducting the day-to-day activities in Human Rights monitoring and investigation activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Based on the guidance of his/her the Monitoring and Investigation section head, the Senior Human Rights Officer is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.
  • Plan and executive HR activities within the scope of the section and implement when approved, identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.
  • Engage in human rights monitoring and investigating activities. Collects and analyses human data and indicators in the country in line with the planned activities of the Monitoring and Investigation section and instructions from his/her immediate supervisors.
  • Lead a team for the execution of Monitoring and Investigation activities
  • Provide guidance and support to HR officer
  • Organize field works in collaboration with branch and district coordinators.
  • Coordinate and deploy volunteers in together with staff members in collaboration with other departments for monitoring and investigation activities.
  • Reports monitoring and investigation findings to his immediate supervisors
  • Collaborate within the functions of the department to optimize project and program costs.
  • Participate in relevant working groups/committees, staff meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by executives.
  • Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honors commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards; operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules;
  • Supports subordinates, provides oversight and takes responsibility for delegated assignments; takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable

Job Requirements

Qualifications / Education

  • LLB, BA on International Relations, Human Rights, Political sciences and related fields
  • Training on Human Rights

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in human rights, more preferably Monitoring and Investigation area

Other skills

  • A passion for justice and fairness and for the respect of Human Rights
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with people from various cultural contexts and at all walks of life
  • The ability to absorb and analyze large amounts of information
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to explain legal matters clearly in non-legal language
  • Confidence and a persuasive manner
  • The ability to work under pressure
  • Time management and strong organizational skills.
