IHS works in the areas of Child Protection and Youth, Protection Monitoring, NFI, Livelihoods, Emergency Education and WASH in both IDP and refugee programs in Afar, Amhara and Tigray in Ethiopia.

About the Country Program in Ethiopia

 IHS’s Current Areas of Engagement includes, Protection Monitoring and Monitoring by Presence; Integrated Child Protection; (Case Management, PSS and FTR) (IDP/refugee); CRI/NFI Distribution for IDPs; WASH service (for refugee) and Pre-Primary Education in area of Tigray Refugee Camps, and Tigray IDP Response Program covering areas of Mekelle, Adigrat, Axum and Adwa, Shire, Shiraro, Adi Daero, Endabaguna and Mai-Tsebri. In Amhara as part of the IDP Response Program IHS works in Debrebirhan, Mekeneslam, Dessie and its surrounding area, North Gondar (Debarek, Debat, Alemwach) and Wagehimra area and Afar Refugee Response Program in Serdo and Aysaita.

Summary of the position

 The Child Protection Coordinatorrole’s purpose, engagement and delivery are:

In this role, the Child Protection Coordinator will support the grant management of projects, programme planning, procurement, and the oversight of programme implementation. In addition, he/she will act as master trainer for the partner’s field team on topics identified during capacity assessments and in line with programme design and will work to disseminate capacity building to the partner field staff, The Child Protection Coordinator will actively monitor programme activities ensuring quality of IHS’s programme and will lead the engagement of communities in Child Protection programme designs.

Essential job duties

 Strategic program development

  • Contribute actively to refugee program development; documentation of best practices and foster cross learning and networking with relevant partners and key actors.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new intervention areas in line with IHS Ethiopia CO strategy and the overall programming approach of the organization.
  • Develop advocacy strategy to ensure the rights of children to survival, development, participation and protection is respected sustainably with likeminded partners and other stakeholders who have stake on children’s issue.
  • Ensure that key program components are community owned through empowering the key community structures setting up of systems and structures.

 Implementation and technical support

  • Lead, coordinate and execute IHS refugee program in coordination with program staff and ensure that the program is computable with the overall strategy of the organization.
  • Work closely with the Area Manager and IHS team to support the development, and regular update of IHS program.
  • Work with program and support staff to ensure that existing internal systems and processes, and internal management decision making (HR, Finance and support services) are responsive to an effective and efficient delivery of services.
  • Working with field staff/ teams and ensure they receive the required technical support necessary for effective implementation of the refugee program.
  • Contribute the preparation and submission of concept notes, project proposals and budgets.
  • Provide technical support to on-going child protection and livelihood response/ activities in the field and ensure that all children affected by displacement get equal access to services and protection.
  • Responsible for overall reporting and submission of progress report to the area manager to prove the standard and approval.
  • Manage IHS budget, follow up the bur rate and proper utilization of project cost in coordination with mainly finance in consultation with the area manager.

 Partnership development

  •  Responsible to ensure networking, partnership and collaborations with all partners and community structures and make sure that refugees affected by displacement and conflict get appropriate services from IHS program /intervention.

Human Resources Management

  •  Build the capacity of field teams on how to plan, monitor and provide technical support on their thematic areas (child protection, livelihoods, etc) implemented by IHS Ethiopia.
  • In collaboration with the HR, identify opportunities for staff development in key competence areas.

 Monitoring

  •  Responsible to monitor the progress and challenges of the program work with all concerned regularly and make sure that the program has been in line with donor requirement and indicators.
  •  Creating and maintaining an environment free from abuse and exploitation, obligation to report any concerns, participation in mandatory PSEA trainings, and work with respect the code of conduct to protect beneficiaries. He/she is responsible to keep all information confidential regarding with the beneficiary’s data and organizational rules and regulations.

Availability: Immediately

Contract Duration:    11 months (with possibility for extension)

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • BA degree in an area of social development or equivalent.
  • Recommended a minimum of 4 years management experience.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Language Skills: Fluent in local languages and in English (speaking/reading/writing).
  • Knowledge & skills: Excellent analytical and writing skills, creative thinking.
  • Computer skills: Good knowledge of the MS office software.
