Background Information

Ethiopiaid Canada is a charitable international development organization committed to empowering people in Ethiopia to live healthy and productive lives.  We seek lasting change by supporting interventions driven by local partners.  At the core of our work is to improve the lives of those living in poverty by increasing opportunities and access to resources. Our programming focuses on improving maternal health services, reducing barriers to education, and supporting women’s and girls’ empowerment.

Ethiopiaid Canada is implementing a Global Affairs Canada funded project; Women and Girls Empowerment in Ethiopia. A four-year project aiming to enhance the well-being of 6,190 marginalized women and girls in four districts of the Afar and Harari regions of Ethiopia. Ethiopiaid Canada is leading the implementation of the project in collaboration with its local partners; the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA) and Cheshire Services Ethiopia, to increase access to and utilization of sexual and reproductive health and rights services by marginalized women and girls and create income-generating opportunities for women and youth through vocational training and business skills development.

Prior to implementation, there is need for a baseline assessment to ascertain the existing. Therefore, Ethiopiaid Canada is seeking a consultant with strong experience and passion for women empowerment, to conduct a baseline assessment for the project.

Purpose and Objective of the Consultancy

The purpose of this baseline study is to assess the exiting situations regarding the project focus areas to provide a better understanding of the conditions, the evidences generated will serve as an input for the design of implementation approach of the project. Therefore, set a standard to measure changes within the project outcome areas, which includes;

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Commitment to Ethiopiaid Canada’s vision, mission and values as well a passion for international development;
  • A degree in a relevant discipline (Education, Statistics, Social Sciences, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative and measurement techniques;
  • Proven experience in baseline-report drafting;
  • Experience working with women and children;
  • Knowledge on Ethiopia and/or women’s empowerment
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills in English
  • Strong teamwork and effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in developing countries, in particular Africa;
  • Willingness and ability to travel;
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism and an ability to work independently and under pressure with tight deadlines
