World Learning, an international non-profit organization based in the United States, works globally to enhance the capacity and commitment of individuals, institutions, and communities to create a more peaceful, and just world through education, sustainable development, and exchange. World Learning is looking for a consultant to support in-country research, intelligence gathering and outreach with youth organizations in Ethiopia.
Below are the requirements for scope of work:
• Analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the recent youth development/empowerment projects in Ethiopia.
• Analysis of gender and social inclusion issues in Ethiopia and how youth are impacted
• Analysis of gaps and opportunities for youth employment and civic engagement programming at the secondary school level, university level, and community level
• Provide information on effective local youth organizations and youth networks working to support youth employment, civic engagement, and health services; provide contact information and conduct outreach with organizations to learn more about their capacity and approach to youth development
• Provide information on role of private sector in supporting youth employment and empowerment; identify high-growth or high-opportunity sectors for youth employment
• Collect information on the state of digital learning in schools and universities and youth access to digital learning and network tools
• Provide information on gender and social inclusion dynamics in employment, civic engagement, and health services
Deliverables
A summary report with details of key informant interviews, contact information and position description of people interviewed; include any analysis or conclusions on the state of youth development for employment, civic engagement, and health services in Ethiopia.
Required experience:
• Familiarity with Ethiopian institutions working on youth development and empowerment issues including universities, TVETs, local youth organizations/networks, or local NGOs
• Understanding of the status of youth employment, civic engagement, and health services for youth and the governmental and NGO stakeholders at national/regional/local levels in Ethiopia
• Knowledge of Ethiopian social and political context; understanding of barriers and opportunities for youth engagement and employment ; understanding of gender and social inclusion issues in the country and how the impact youth
• Experience with youth development and empowerment civic and/or civic initiatives, ideally in Ethiopia
• Connections with relevant key contacts in government such as with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affair and Ministry of Education
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
