The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is established in 2003 registered under FDRE Agency for Civil Society Organization with certificate number 1481 as a national network of Ethiopian societies who share the goal of advancing women’s rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ethiopia. NEWA is committed to sustaining the transformational struggle for the improvement of women’s lives and status in Ethiopia through creating synergy among its member associations/ organizations and being a common voice for gender equality in the country.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

Provide Program Management and Implementation

  •  Contribute to the preparation of program documents, annual work plans, results reporting by providing advice and analysis of political governance and programming areas, identifying potential risks, impacts, expected results, indicators, constraints and opportunities for NEWA’s “Supporting women in political participation in Ethiopia’’;
  • Support, coordinate and provide technical assistance in the implementation of capacity building and advocacy interventions under the project  and ensure timely implementation;
  • Liaise and collaborate with partner organizations (donors, government agencies, Civil Societies(CSOs), and offices at different levels;
  • Represent the organization at various forums, such as membership and  partner meetings, workshops, seminars, etc;
  • Contributes to the formulation and implementation of program strategies focusing on achievement of results, including grant management and reporting;
  • Prepare briefing notes to the program manager regularly on monthly basis, to inform program/project progress and performance;
  • Ensure the delivery of trainings and consultation in terms of gender and governance expertise
  • Be updated on emerging electoral issues for input into NEWA programing and as needed, facilitating research, collecting, generating, maintaining, analysis and regular updating of national level indicators (quantitative and qualitative), highlight political governance issues in general and those specifically related to NEWA program priority areas, and prepare feedback reports as inputs into national level situational monitoring and reporting

Research and Advocacy:

  • Coordinate high quality research to generate knowledge on representation, electoral reform, women’s empowerment issues in diverse thematic areas;
  • Derive policy recommendations from research and assist in the development and implementation of an evidence-based advocacy strategy for the program;
  • Produce concise monitoring and results reports, briefing notes, etc for external audiences, both national and regional.

Provide Administrative and Financial Management Support to the project

  • Organize budget revisions and update operational and financial status of the project as deemed necessary
  • Provide administrative support in monitoring budget preparation and the finances of project;
  • Facilitate payment and timely settlement as per agreements;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the organization

Facilitation of Knowledge Building and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Contribute to documentation and dissemination of knowledge products related with the project;
  • Contribute in content development to the project’s media related initiatives;
  • Facilitate dialogue platforms and document lessons learned and widely share with key partners
  • Provide information on a timely basis, on important political and institutional changes of interest for NEWA,
  • Ensure learning and monitoring processes are in place and that resulting best practice is widely shared.
  • Facilitate trainings for partners, members staff and other actors on a wide range of representation related issues;
  • Prepare briefings, talking points and presentation materials; make sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Organize projects’ review mission and other missions; ensures quality and timely submission of project progress reports.

  • Promotes knowledge management in NEWA and a learning environment in the office through leadership and personal example.
  • Actively works towards continuing personal learning and development in one or more Practice Areas, acts on learning plan and applies newly acquired skills.

 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education 

  • Master’s Degree and BA Degree in the field of Social sciences, preferably, Gender studies, Law or Governance,

Experience

  • +3 years of experience for master’s degree or +5 years of experience for bachelor’s degree programme design, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of development projects;
  • Experience in the field of women’s rights, gender, human rights, gender responsive governance and Election;
  • Experience on national Election process works,
  • Demonstrable experience in organizing multiple capacity building trainings, and coordinating with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, non-governmental organizations, political parties, women groups, and local communities;
  • Analytical and advocacy skills on gender equality, women’s rights and empowerment of women issues especially on women in leadership and political participation is desirable;
  • Knowledge about CSO landscape in the country and experience working with CSO’s;
  • Experience in managing different funds for projects;
  • Proven experience in project design, implementation and follow up;
  • Experience in administration or programme management/support;
  • Experience in multiple office software packages;

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Amharic & English is required
  • Knowledge of the other local language is an asset
