Purpose of the position

The Emergency Communication Coordinator will be responsible for managing content development, design compelling narratives and visual materials about WV Ethiopia’s work in emergencies through both first-hand acquaintance with beneficiaries, particularly children, community, local government in close collaboration with WV Ethiopia staff at all levels to inform and educate donors, partners, GC/SOs and media for marketing and fundraising. The incumbent will be based in Mekelle and frequently travel to WVE’s response or operation areas in the region. The position is responsible for gathering facts on the ground, photographs and video that can be adapted for the purposes of sharing our work internally and externally.

Major duties and Responsibilities

ü  Develop compelling stories, key messages, videos and photos to be shared with our support offices, regional offices, partners donors and stakeholders for marketing and fundraising efforts.

ü  Respond rapidly and effectively to emergency situations to maintain emotional composure, organization of work and accurate productivity during periods of stress and high activity, comprehend and follow the detailed procedures and instructions of the agency. Ensure emergency communications materials such as SitReps, reports, plans etc. are shared with the partnership in all available medium such as WVrelief, emergency communicators group etc. (as appropriate)

ü  Develop accurate, compelling donor reports, situation reports, etc. in close collaboration with HEA Division and field staff in order to provide timely information to donors, EARO/GC/SOs

ü  Contribute to regular social media and website content, particularly on emergency crisis

ü  Contribute contents for monthly update and quarterly newsletter of response related issues

Support in developing various documents including press releases, fact sheets, background documents, and stories

ü  Coordinate media relations to identify opportunities, priority events and platform to reach target audience and influencers, undertakes activities to promote media coverage of priority issues/events proactively, produce/oversees production of specific information communications products such us press kit, press release, feature articles, brochures. Conducts media monitoring on both national and international sources to collect relevant information, scanning the macro-environment regularly (Country situation analysis, audience analysis) and produce periodic report.

ü  Identify, develop and maintain productive working relationships with external stakeholders such as media, donors, coalition and other partners and audiences

ü  Collaborate with HEA and advocacy colleagues to define key issues, messaging, and communications channels for public advocacy initiatives.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Required.

                                       

·       BA/MA degree in Journalism, communications, public relations, English language, literature, political science & international relations or related fields

·       Proven experience in story writing/photography/videography

·       Can speak, write, and interpret Tigrigna Language into Amharic and English and vice versa

·       Good command of English Language

·       Proficient computer skills in Adobe Photoshop/InDesign (in addition to basic computer skills)and ability to learn new software package

·       Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills

·       Experience in producing different documentation

· Problem-solving ability and innovation

·       Perform other duties related to the job as required.

·       Good organization, prioritization, and time management skills.

·       Demonstrated ability to work independently in own field of specialization

·       Flexibility to travel as required.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

·       Proven experience in story writing/photography/videography
