Forests for Future (F4F)

The Forests4Future (F4F) project is part of a global project to support the implementation of the AFR100 commitments of Ethiopia, Madagascar, Togo, Cameroon, Benin and Ivory cost.

The F4F Ethiopia project aims to rehabilitate the ecological and productive functions of degraded terrestrial ecosystems towards landscapes and forests, sustainable wood production, sustainable agriculture, mixed agroforestry systems and the rehabilitation of pastures and wetlands. It strengthens the resilience of entire landscapes and improves the well-being of populations.

Responsibilities and Duties

1.    Advise the partner institution(s) and partner’s technical staff on all forestry and related matters

  • Provides technical advice on forestry and related matters for the partners whenever is needed or required
  • To make sure that all stakeholders are linked in strategic events of the projects;
  • To play a role of “communication bridge” between all stakeholders and the project
  • To cooperate in the strategic development of the project;
  • To make the link to the monitoring and to guarantee at all times, that monitoring information from the field is smart and verifiable;
  • To keep the link between the field and the group dealing with communication, and make sure, that the communication has always “food for communication” about achievements in the projects assigned.

2.    Networking and cooperation between the project and the project partners

  • Supports cooperation, regular contact and dialogue and communication with partners, and cooperates with local communities, relevant organizations, non-governmental agencies, and individuals in the project environment and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships and information sharing
  • Links between national level strategies and their implementation in the field and particularly in the intervention site
  • Is aware of the activities promoted and implemented by the Regional Authority and the strategies and regulations developed by the political partner and identifies field of cooperation
  • Ensures the involvement of the partner staff in all kinds of project activities;
  • Actively discuss all kind of concepts and approaches within the project and make sure, that messages to the partners are always in line with the project.
  • Makes sure that the agreed concepts, approaches, and strategies of the program are well taken and implemented by the partner
  • Ensures the involvement of the partner’s staff in planning and implementation in the site;

3.    Innovation and Knowledge management

  • Ensure knowledge transfer within the project
  • Develop ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures
  • Document and disseminate good experiences from the site and actively work with other GIZ and BMZ funded projects on the adoption of good lessons
  • Develop and/or improve innovative and efficient/effective ways of addressing the goal and objectives of the program and addressing the problems on the site.
  • Prepares appropriate input for various project reports including annual reports and contributes to the other reports required by the project manager.

4.    Technical monitoring of field activities

  • To be involved in all planning and coordination of missions to the site;
  • To do follow up and monitor progress of activities based on agreed operational plan
  • Collect and document monitoring relevant data in the project monitoring system
  • Coordinate partners involved in the project monitoring

5.    Other duties and responsibilities

  • Participating in all important program meetings and planning
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of the project management

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Masters/MSc in an area related to the programme objectives, with a focus on Agroforestry, natural resource management, horticulture, and related field

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g., MS Office)
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of the English language
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
