Organizational and Program highlights

  • Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO) is registered non-governmental organization. ISHDO is funded by USAID as prime under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to implement a three years Family-focused HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment activity in Oromia Region. The Activity will be implemented in partnership with other sub local implementing partners. The activity aims to accelerate and sustain HIV epidemic control in Ethiopia through the delivery of high impact Family-focused HIV prevention, care, and Treatment Activity in selected 41 woredas of Oromia regional state.
  • The purpose of this award is to strengthen local HIV epidemic control to achieve the goal of 95 percent of individuals living with HIV know their status, 95 percent of persons living with HIV initiated antiretroviral therapy and 95 percent of on antiretroviral therapy achieve viral load suppression by 2030. HIV mitigation services for vulnerable children will focus on case finding and linkage to HIV treatment among undiagnosed children living with HIV, on achieving better health outcomes through HIV viral load suppression and establishing interpersonal, family and community norms to achieve HIV and violence prevention (9 to 14-year-old children).

Job summary

  • Under the supervision of Chief of party, the gender adviser will be responsible for ensuring ISHDO’s leverages activities to reduce gender inequality and increase social inclusion. This includes integration of gender in the implementation, monitoring as well as supporting ISHDO teams and implementing partners to integrate gender through conducting gender analysis, capacity building of staff, review of workplans, analysis of monitoring data for trends, support of research and case study development around gender related topics. In addition, the Gender adviser will play a lead role in refining content, controlling quality, and building capacity as it relates to the Family Focused HIV prevention, care and treatment activity, which aims to mainstream gender and youth activities at family level
  • The Gender adviser will also closely work with TA partners to craft and tailor gender training and dialogue materials for both staffs and Implementing partners of FFHPCT and develop and deploy quality control mechanisms – including data collection, quality monitoring, among others. The Gender adviser will also be responsible for the training and technical advising of in their implementation of these activities.

Job responsibilities

Strategic and Technical Assistance and Capacity Building

  • Lead the implementation of gender related education activities of the FFHPCT in collaboration with partners, including conducting gender audit, gender analysis and organizing gender trainings to staffs and IPs;
  • Support teams on gender integration, providing training, practical tools, strengthening of curriculum, etc. and follow up to ensure all activities are implemented in a gender sensitive and inclusive manner.
  • Build the capacities of Local implementing partners, service providers and support them to coordinate comprehensive GBV support through  referrals ,and reporting of GBV and ensure proper follow up of documented incident;
  • Undertake regular field trips to cross cutting gender activities of the project and check field-based gender mainstreaming activities; and advise on monitoring and reporting on emerging gender related issues;
  • Provide technical guidance using/developing as required gender appropriate and gender sensitive tools and ensuring equity in participation of Adolescent and Youth based on gender and other intersecting identities
  • Contribute to the gender sensitive monitoring of project activities and ensure the provision of training to girls on gender appropriate approaches and methodologies.
  • Develop and/or adapt IEC packages on gender Equality/GBV.

Representation

  • Represent ISHDO at the gender-based meetings and update on progress made, challenges and appropriate follow up plans to regional government sector offices.
  • Plan and lead gender related community activities/campaigns gender activism as a platform to gender sensitive practices and behavioral change.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning

  • Supporting project team in measuring achievement and progress towards project goals and results in line with the gender strategy.
  • Support the Monitoring and evaluation team in the development of gender responsive tools during assessments, Project evaluations and report, and in documenting and sharing best practices/lessons learned.
  • Ensure participation of project partners in relevant coordination meetings at different levels
  • Maintain strong communication within the project team and area program office staff as appropriate

Job Requirements

Required education and experiences

  • MA/BA degree in an area of gender, social work and development studies or equivalent.
  • Five to seven years working experience, among these four years in NGO setting as gender adviser Preferred working experience related to HIV and gender
  • Good organizational, communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrate an open and inclusive attitude, commitment to the importance of protecting children and manage to work under pressure and appreciate challenges.
  • Good teamwork skills.
  •  Commitment to the wellbeing of children and safeguarding and child protection and sexual violence protection matters.
