Job Purpose: The main purpose of the General Manager’s job is to direct and manage the company’s business activities and to develop and implement effective business strategies and programs. S/he is responsible for providing leadership to all areas of the business and can coordinate processes and operations across the company including, but not limited to, allocating budget resources, formulating policies, monitoring and motivating staff, managing operational costs, ensuring good customer service, improving administration processes, and engaging with key business partners.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • For the realization of the aforementioned job purposes, the major duties and responsibilities of the person assigned as General Manager are mentioned as follows:
  • Plan, coordinate and manage all business operations to achieve company goals.
  • Ensure the creation and implementation of a strategy designed to grow the business and ensure profitability.
  • Continuously analyze existing operations, crops, equipment and financial status of the company and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure preparation and submission of accurate reports on business, cost and HR and review reports for required actions.
  • Develop strategies to improve overall product quality and productivity.
  • Ensure Preparation of plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensuring staff understand expectations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing program and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure smooth running of marketing and sales activities of the company’s farm products.
  • Engage in key or targeted customer activities and identify business opportunities with new and existing customers.
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities.
  • Evaluate and recommend upon key investments in equipment, infrastructure, and talent.
  • Engage with financial institutions to ensure funding needs are met and business relationships are maintained.
  • Determine staffing requirements and ensure that positions are filled promptly.
  • Ensure that employee concerns are addressed in timely manner.
  • Ensure that employees follow company policies and procedures.
  • Schedule regular team meetings to discuss about business updates, issues and recommendations.
  • Ensure that seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.
  • Ensure scheduling of repairs, maintenance

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Economics and/or related fields.
  • M.A. or M.Sc. is strongly preferable
  • At least 10 years work experience, out of which 5 years at progressive managerial capacities in commercial company settings (including relevant experience at comparable roles).
  • Strong leadership qualities with focus on the big picture and having strategic views
  • Commendable networking and persuasive skill
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinker; and ability to make decisions in stressful situations
  • Computer literate
