MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

•          Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures

•          Ensuring team work and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.

•          Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.

•          Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment

•          Ensuring that all staff  using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed  according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.

•          Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment

•          Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.

•          In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs  Gyne MD and following the protocols.

•          In collaboration with the Midwife Activity Manager and the MAM, ensure the continuum of care through a fixed 24/7 centralized Primary and inpatient healthcare services provided in Darme HC (Sababoru): Outpatient and Inpatient services for the Maternal and New-born Health package (ANC, PNC, PF,…),

•          Provide technical supervision, training and support to the staff under S/His supervision includinging the Health Extension Workers (HEWs) on reproductive, maternal and child health, on access to quality preventative and curative health care services, lifesaving services to pregnant and lactating women and children, on IPC-related issues, using existing tools such as maternal death audits, checklist, and surveillance.

•          Ensure the correct functioning of all the SRH activities at the project level and Support the HP team in identification of SGBV cases, in case of need.

•          Ensure together with the Midwife Activity Manager, HP supervisor  that SGBV and SRH Outpatients and Inpatients services data collection, data entry in specific database (HMIS and Excel tools), quality control, and reporting to PMR according on weekly and monthly basis.

•          Organize the SRH teams rosters (HC and Outreach program), ensuring that the composition of the teams reflects in every occasion regions of origin, sex and needs of the beneficiaries for each site.

•          Support the HP team in the activities integrated to the mobile clinics, contributing to develop and implement the most adapt strategies and tools for each specific site focused on Decentralized Model of Care.

•          Coordinate in collaboration with the referral nurse the referrals of beneficiaries from the sites of mobile clinics and community to the territorial health facilities in agreement with the MAM and Midwife Activity Manager.

Job Requirements

EducationDiploma of Midwife (or any Diploma recognized in the country and /or the Ministry of Health to practice as such)
ExperienceMinimum 2-year experience as Midwife. Having MSF experience or with another NGO in the same field is an asset.
LanguagesMission language and local language (Oromia) are essential
KnowledgeEssential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
