Oromia Development Association (ODA) is a non-profit, membership-based local non-governmental organization established in 1993 by farsighted people with a mission to contribute to the development of the lives of Oromia people through sustainable integrated community-based programs. It is registered as Ethiopian resident charity with registration number 1414. ODA primarily focuses on livelihood diversification, empowerment of the community, public health promotion, and education, provision of potable water, environmental protection and distinctly promoting voluntarism to contribute to the development effort of the region.

ODA has been striving to contribute towards addressing the AYSRH challenges of the region since 2009 in three phases through its school-based intervention where it employed “Comprehensive Life Skill Education”, provision of comprehensive AYSRH messages, creating linkages with public health facilities for the provision of youth friendly SRH services, and engaging stakeholders and the community to address the socio-economic and reproductive health needs of young people.

Oromia Development Association (ODA) invites committed, experienced and competent applicants for the following position.

  3. Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The IEC/BCCofficer, reporting to the Chief of Operation Manager, will be responsible to oversee the design, pre-test, development, production, distribution and coordination  Adolescents and Youth Sexual& Reproductive Health (AYSRH)  project  IEC/BCC related activities. S/he is expected to ensure IEC/BCC program activities are carried out within specified timeframe. Also, the candidate will use ODA-AYSRH Comprehensive Life Skill Education guideline, others Social Mobilization manuals and should be able to analyze research data to develop relevant and appropriate campaigns.

4.Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Specific duties include, but not limited to, the following major areas: – Coordinate and lead the development of key messages and themes needed for AYSRH information dissemination and ODA overall mass communication campaigns.
  • Coordinate the collection and review of the existing AYSRH IEC/BCC materials which includes training and other educational materials
  • Coordinate the design, development, pre-test, production, distribution of all IEC/BCC materials, and mass communication materials including billboards, fliers, road shows, radio and TV spots and dramas, et
  • In close collaboration with ODA project team , membership mobilization coordinators, coordinate the design, development, pre-test, and production of training and educational materials
  • Ensure the timely distribution of mass communication and BCC materials to partners, Stakeholders, governments and volunteers
  • Play a key role in mobilizing community for exercising healthy behaviors through providing backstops support to social mobilization coordinators, project team,  and partner organizations
  • Ensure that there is an efficient monitoring system in documenting and reporting IEC/BCC materials distribution, soft copy filing, etc
  • Produce quarterly, semi-annual and annual AYSRH related IEC/BCC progress reports
  • Actively participate in all other project activities: research, pre-test, best practice documentations. Training and outreach, planning and dissemination workshops
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the association

Job Requirements

  1. Qualification and Experience:
  • Qualified applicants must havea minimum of First degree in Health promotion, health education, Journalism, Communication, literature or related field with minimum of 5 years IEC/BCC work experience,
  • The qualified candidate should possess creativity, innovation, qualitative and quantitative research experience
  • Broad knowledge on SRH ,Gender  and prevention of HIV/AIDS services and issues related with young people socio-economic issues
  • Excellent working knowledge of  Afan Oromo, Amharaic  and English-both written and verbal communication as well as demonstrated skills in report writing
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office application software including Adobe Photoshop
