The primary goal of the GAVI/TCA project is to support strengthening the national routine immunization program through support on advocacy and communication, generating demand for vaccines, improving vaccination coverage, optimizing vaccine impact, new vaccine introduction, improving data management and improving equity of access to immunization services to reduce illnesses and deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases.

PATH seeks to recruit Woreda level Immunization Coordinator  who will work as part of a Technical Support Team, and will provide technical assistance to woreda health office immunization  team, constantly communicate and maintain relationships with woreda health offices as well as social mobilization committee members, lead the facilitation of advocacy workshop for the leaders in the project woredas. The woreda level immunization coordinator will be based in Somali region in one of the selected woreda town and support other woredas. S/he should be fluent in Somali language. This engagement will be for a period of one year with a possibility of extension.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

• In collaboration with the regional project coordinator, provide support to the woreda health offices in planning, implementing and monitoring different SIAs/NIDs activities.
• Provide support to the woreda health offices in planning, implementing and monitoring EPI routine activities.
• Provide support to the woreda health offices in strengthening coordination among all EPI stakeholders at woreda level.
• Provide comprehensive EPI technical assistance to the woreda health offices.
• Work closely with the woreda health offices and local community in identifying critical gaps/challenges in utilizing immunization services.
• Constantly communicate and maintain relationships with woreda health offices as well as social mobilization committee members.
• Facilitate and participate in activities conducted by social mobilization committees’ members in the field (market places, mosques, schools, wedding ceremonies, women forum, party forum).
• Lead the facilitation of advocacy workshop for the leaders in the project woredas, including the regional social mobilization committees together with regional project coordinator.
• Ensure effective documentation, filling and reporting in the project woredas.
• Support the regional project coordinator in documenting best practices and lessons drawn by the initiative in the implementation woredas.
• Co-facilitate the orientation workshops to the social mobilization committee members.
• Participate in production of IEC materials (poster and brochures) and facilitate their distribution to the project sites.
• Oversee the implementation of agreed demand generation initiative activities in selected woredas.
• Work closely with project team.
• Provide regular monitoring to the project.
• Other activities assigned by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or BSc nursing.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in public health programming, with particular experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs.
• Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, donors and international organizations at various levels.
• Experience in facilitating meetings and moderating discussions with a variety of stakeholders (including religious and clan leaders) preferred.
• Experience in providing technical assistance to program staffs.
• Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities and work under minimal/remote supervision.
• Knowledge of the political, social, economic, and cultural context of Somali region.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
• Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to travel, estimated to be about 60%.
