The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) was established in 2005, and re-registered by the FDRE Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian Resident Charity. ECDD works collaboratively with other organizations to promote facilitate and build capacity for “disability inclusive development” – the inclusion of disability issues and persons with disabilities in mainstream government and non-governmental service delivery and development projects and programs in Ethiopia. ECDD is presently implementing 10 donor-funded projects in 6 regions of the country and in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.

ECDD is now launching a new USAID funded project entitled “Promoting Rights and Inclusion for Disability Empowerment (PRIDE) project in Ethiopia”. The USAID/PRIDE project will directly increase access to vocational skills training and jobs for youth with disabilities in five regions of the country – Amhara, SNNPR, Oromia, Afar, and Somali, as well as in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations. PRIDE will also comprehensively address these needs, working in close collaboration with government, private sector organizations, and OPDs to promote disability-inclusive policies at the Federal and regional levels and provide technical assistance to employers to adopt and implement disability-inclusive policies and practices.

 

General Description

 

The Inclusive PRIDE Project Facilitator is required to facilitate ECDD PRIDE project activities in the assigned town.  The ECDD PRIDE Project Facilitator reports to the ECDD regional Project officer, and is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, supporting and supervising, monitoring, follow-up and reporting on all activities of the PRIDE project in  Oromiya Region, Zeway  and Holeta towns.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Local ECDD PRIDE Project Facilitator directly reports to the ECDD PRIDE regional Project regional officer and is responsible to:

 

  1. The PRIDE project town level facilitator works with PRIDE project team members to develop an agreed process for the project as whole. He/she can facilitate meetings involving team members and other stakeholders. Critically, also facilitate ongoing asynchronous engagement for the duration of the project, including curating project resources.
  2.  He/She has Facilitation techniques involves getting Youth with Disabilities (YwD) together to create new knowledge. As the facilitator, in consultation with the regional project officer and project coordinator needs to encourage all ideas, resolve conflicts between contributoregionas and achieve the goal of the project.
  3.  Support and follow-up OPDS (Organizations of Persons with Disabilities), CBOs (Community Based Organizations) and CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation) Organizations to Identify and select persons with disabilities (Youth with disabilities age 15-29) who will be willing to be empowered and use the inclusive vocational skills training opportunity.
  4.  Work with the regional project officer in identifying capacity gaps of Youth with disability; design and implement most feasible capacity building   activities based on identified gaps and project indicators;
  5.   Facilitate, monitor, evaluate and provide ongoing PRIDE related training to Youth with Disabilities (YwD), CBTs and TVET representatives; and disability inclusion awareness (DIAT) training to partners and stakeholders;
  6.  Facilitate and provide short term disability inclusive training in soft skills, Basic Business Skills (BBS) and Business Development Skills (BDS) for YwDs;
  7.   Follow-up and provide technical support to YwDs who have started income generating activities (IGAs);
  8.  Facilitate and supervise overall operations of the town with regard to PRIDE project implementation through on site visit and address the challenges identified;
  9.   Work with the regional project officers, project coordinator to hold regular meeting and liaise with partners ( DPOs, CBTs, BoWSA, MoLS, MFI )   and Regional/Woreda/town level government bureaus) to promote and facilitate disability inclusive PRIDE s;
  10.  Regularly collect, document and review PRIDE project inclusive community level data disaggregated by age, gender, and types of disability, current status through excel and PRIDE Management Information System (MIS ) if any;
  11.  Support/work with the project coordinator in the adoption, preparation, translation and publishing of  a Guide/Manual on YwD   inclusive USAID_ PRIDE;
  12.  Follow-up and support PRIDE project trainers posted to CBTs partners
  13.  Facilitate other ECDD projects implemented in the region;
  14.   Prepare, compile and document various project related reports that are timely and of high quality based on the key project indicators and reporting formats as required by USAID and ECDD;
  15.   Prepare, compile and document success stories and best practices;

Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications

  1. Education – minimum BA degree in a relevant social science field, cooperatives, business management, economics, is preferred
  2. Professional experience – minimum 2 years of responsibility for the implementation of donor-funded project(s),
  3. Work experience in the area of YwDs / OPDs approach and have experience in working directly with small saving groups, IGA practices, and community leadership skills
  4. Highly encouraged for Youth with Disabilities or working with persons with disabilities.
  5.  Excellent interpersonal relationships, communication, training and team work skills
  6.  Able and willing to travel frequently to the target woredas/cities
  7.  Competence in the use of computer applications
  8.  Good command of English and Afan Oromo is a must for those applying for Oromia region (Holeta and Zeway towns)
