CLM – Climate Sensitivity Innovation for Land Management

Since 2008, the Ethiopian government, namely the Ministry of Agriculture, operates the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) program to reverse land degradation and increase agricultural productivity in the highlands. The SLMP aims at reaching two million households in more than 7,000 micro-watersheds in Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray.

GIZ has been providing technical support to the MoA’s flagship program Sustainable Land Management since its inception, at national, regional and local levels. The new program module “Climate-Sensitive Innovations in Land Management” (CLM) which runs from July 2021 to June 2024 focuses on the capacity development of SLM implementers through policy and institutional development advisory, technical and managerial support, field-level coaching, training, networking, piloting field activities as well as research and communications.

Gender and development assistant will be responsible for ensuring gender empowerment and equality activities in GIZ-CLM support WUCs/institutions including awareness raising, sensitization, training, monitoring, evaluation, documentation, etc., focusing on women and other vulnerable groups. She will assist the involvement of women and other vulnerable groups in the representation of in decision-making, planning exercise, implementation, benefit sharing, monitoring, and evaluation.

Responsibilities and Duties 

Specific duties and responsibilities

Tasks to support:

  • Assist advisory services and capacity-building supports will be provided to empower local communities including women to actively participate in local development processes, strengthens local institutions, and conducts awareness raising, sensitization, and identification of problematic issues for women and other vulnerable groups.
  • Facilitate the Coordination, cooperation and knowledge management supports, regular contact and dialogue with partners, and cooperates with local communities, relevant organizations, non-governmental agencies and with other projects are working on women empowerment to improve and maintain good working relationships.
  • Assists/ensure the involvement and the participation of women and vulnerable groups in WUCs decision-making process and their representation in watershed development   planning exercises, implementation, benefit sharing, monitoring, evaluation, communication and documentation.
  • Assist in the design, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars and other events on issues connected to the Gender empowerment and mainstreaming.  compiles the relevant information for joint activities and assignments, publishes relevant training/awareness materials and guidelines for the local population; develops and distribute information and communication materials in different local languages.
  • Facilitate trainings will be provided to WUCs members and other watershed communities on gender empowerment, equality and mainstreaming.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Required BA/BSC degree from an accredited college or university in a major social science field of study, preferably gender and development or sociology Fresh graduate who finished their studies within the last six months

Requirements

  • Proven good knowledge of English and Amharic language, written, and spoken.
  • Good knowledge of ITC technologies
  • Verifiable skills using packages such as MS Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize several tasks at the same time working in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in an intercultural setting and network
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised, and as part of a multicultural and international team
  • Proactive attitude, solution-oriented and willing to learn
