Background

Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is an Ethiopian resident charity organization established in 1997 and re- registered in accordance with the charities and societies proclamation No 1113/2019 with a certificate No 0022. MCMDO currently is being implementing more than 16 projects and development activities in Oromiya, SNNP Ethiopia, Somali, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, Tigray, Amhara, Harari, Dire Dawa and City Administration of Addis Ababa.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide community awareness on prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition
  • Capacitate community, community leader and religious leaders on family-led MUAC.
  • Ensure effectiveness of wasting prevention, early detection, and referral by engaging Alliance for Development (AFDs)/community structures.
  • Training of AFD leaders on comprehensive packages of SAM prevention, early detection, and referral and treatment
  • Organize and follow up of AFD meeting by biweekly
  • Conduct supportive supervision on AFD engagement, reporting at each kebele.
  • Plan, organize, and follow up of Communication and coordination between Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and AFDs
  • Follow review meeting of Kebele leaders/ HEW and AFD monthly and HEWs/HWs on linkage of HEWs and AFD at kebele level
  • Conduct home visit with HEW/AFD leaders
  • Promote IYCF, support practical IYCF demonstration
  • Provides technical support and training to AFD /HEW where required at outreach level,
  • Strengthening Social and Behavior Change (SBC) preventive interventions on caregivers of children aged 0-59 months, more focused counseling for caregivers with MAM children, caregivers of recovered SAM children.
  • Lead the design and planning of advocacy and community engagement activities on early detection and treatment of malnutrition
  • Plan and facilitate social mobilization on prevention of acute malnutrition, Family MUAC, passive screening, family folder with collaboration AFD/HEWs

About You

 Qualification and Experience

  • BSc/Diploma in Health, Nutrition, Nursing or related field with a minimum least 5 years working experience in nutrition, nursing or related field for Diploma or 3 years for Bachelor degree in public health, Nursing nutrition or related field.
  • Previous experience with IYCF/SBCC is strongly recommended
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach local staff and community workers.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and representational and communications skills are essential, and a team-oriented work style is a necessity.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
  • Strong report writing and computer skills
  • Local language is mandatory
