Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization founded in October 1999. Since its establishment, MSD has been implementing different programs in collaboration with partners on providing broad range of HIV prevention, care and treatment services and Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH), Migration & Trafficking, Good Governance, Education and Child Development in different parts of the country.

Job Summary

The IT Officer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and upgrading the computer systems and networks. The day to day responsibilities will include installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing hardware and software faults and solving technical and application problems. The IT Officer will oversee the smooth running of computer systems and programs whilst ensuring users get maximum benefits from them.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing and administering database information systems
  •  Ensures periodical updates of organizational website.
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications for organizations
  • Manage (schedule, communicate, coordinate and effectively carryout) regular servicing of computers
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
  • Provide technical assistance/ support to employees in computer and other IT equipment issues across the organization (field and coordination offices)
  • Ensure and maintain up to date record and inventory of computers, printers, scanners, other IT equipment and all associated spare parts.
  • Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality

Reports To: Grant, Finance and Admin Director 

Job Requirements

Education/Training

  • BSc  in Computer Science, IT-related field

Experience:

  • 2 years proven experience as IT Officer
  • Certification as IT Technician will be an advantage (e.g CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)

Technical and Other Skills

  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication ability
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  • In depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
