We are looking for a WASH Business Development Manager to support growth in the WASH market by (i) leading a team developing innovative business models to improve the delivery of WASH products and services by growing existing high-potential private enterprises operating in Ethiopia; (ii) coordinating and leading the launch and scaling up of business model; and (iii) working with various actors and partners to create fertile environment for sustainable WASH business.

  • WASH market growth (e.g., shipments, sales target, new penetration, depletions)
  • Market intelligence
  • Business model and franchise development (e.g., number of business models developed, number of enterprise services “franchised/branded” within the business models, number of products sold/services rendered through supported enterprises, profitability of supported enterprises)
  • Business development support (e.g., trainings delivered)
  • Stakeholder and partner engagement

Your contribution

  • Lead the design and launch of WASH business models.
  • Support Business Development Advisors to develop and implement business models and WASH Service Centers that layout the product offering, distribution channels, sales approaches and public and private finance partners.
  • Drive the incubation of private sector partners to deliver quality products and services through the development of systems, partnerships, tools, and training modules for provision of business development services.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of business model pilots.
  • Explore partnership opportunities with interested private sector partners to scale up the WASH business.
  • Build partnerships and coordinate with local financing mechanisms to connect with private business operators.
  • Manage and build capacity of business partners to make any loan payments on time, manage the business effectively and to ensure they are upholding the brand standards.
  • Support a demand creation and marketing campaign for the WASH products and services.
  • Explore and facilitate introduction of supplementary business for business operators, the viability and acceptability for waste-reuse models, and opportunities to increase efficiency of operators.
  • Establish networks among WASH market actors and engage with relevant government/local partners to effectively foster coordination and partnerships with private sector partners/stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze monitoring level data to improve local management and decision-making and to adapt and optimize business models under implementation.
  • Provide regular, concise reporting on program activities, including document and sharing key learnings on the potential to scale identified business models with a private sector perspective.
  • Contribute to the development of metrics and establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework for tracking progress for the project, specifically tracking market development among private sector partners.

Generic Duties of the Position:

  • Develop and implement the Division’s operational plans and objectives.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper utilization of the Division’s budgets.
  • Identify human resources requirements of the Division and develop plan for meeting the requirements.
  • Lead the development, implementation and review of relevant Division procedures.
  • Review, approve and submit Division reports to relevant organs.
  • Support the development of subordinates through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback.
  • Represent the Organization in external relationships related with the Division.
  • Participate in group decision making processes by forming part of different groups/committees.

Job Requirements

What are we looking for? The basics

  • Master’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with five (5) years of demonstrated experience out of which two (2) years at a supervisory level

OR

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with seven (7) years of out of which two (2) years at a supervisory level

What would get us excited?

  • Demonstrated experience in a relevant field such as general business management, private sector delivery of water and sanitation services, sales & marketing, supply chain strengthening, or social entrepreneurship
  • Preferable to have experience in providing business development support as well as supplies and purchasing in the sanitation, and hardware or construction industry; and/or in the design and implementation of sales and marketing programs in developing countries
  • Proficient in English and Amharic languages, both in oral and written communication
  • Willingness to travel frequently throughout Ethiopia
