Young Women Christian Association in Ethiopian is an affiliate member to World YWCA and an international voluntary membership movement that connects women leading social and economic change in over 120 countries. YWCA in Ethiopia was initially founded in 1962 and reestablished in 2000 then re-registered as Ethiopian resident charity following proclamation 621/2009 and again re-registered with revised CSO 1113/2019 proclamation under FDRE CSO agency. The Young Women’s Christian Association in Ethiopia (YWCA) is working towards gender equality advancement, influencing governance and planning, socio-economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, access to education and young women leadership development through designing different programs with its partners and supporters. Currently, YWCA Ethiopia is looking to hire potential candidate for the below a MEAL Officer position.

JOB DETAILS

The MEAL Officer will be primarily responsible for establishing and overseeing a functional MEAL system for the projects, which heavily relies on a set of interrelated data collection tools and management systems. S/he will be responsible for all MEAL related activities, including program monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, reporting of achievements and results. S/he will lead efforts to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems, and performance monitoring within the YWCA targeted geographical area, which may include building the capacity of project team members to monitor, document and analyze the performance of their activities and ensure data quality. This position is critical for quality programming and generation of evidence-based approaches to support YWCA to realize its mission in gender equality, women and youth empowerment, and equal access to education among others.

SPECIFIC ROLES

  •  Leads the design and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation activities including the development of the project’s performance monitoring plan, indicator development and tracking as well as data collection tools
  •  Ensure that appropriate M&E mechanisms are incorporated into work plans and reports
  • Monitor program performance based on the performance monitoring and evaluation plan, annual work plans
  •  Conducts regular site visits aimed to provide strategic guidance and mentoring to field staff on various aspects of program implementation.
  •  Provide technical assistance and leadership, to implement, assess and strengthen M&E systems and tools, to achieve programmatic goals
  •  Conduct capacity building activities for project staff to support the collection, analysis, presentation, and utilization of high-quality data for improved programming
  • Perform any other work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Employment Type: One-year contract with the possibility of extension based on performance appraisal and fund availability

Job Requirements

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent planning, report writing, analytical and communication skills, including oral presentation skills
  •  Strong Leadership and Management skills
  •  Proficiency in spoken and written English and Amharic
  •  Knowledge of major donors’ rules, regulations, and reporting requirements
  • Sound knowledge of development program planning, project design, and monitoring and  evaluation
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional background Ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  •  Strong background in using computers
  •  Ability to work independently and in a team
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  •  Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in monitoring & evaluation or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum two years working on in designing, establishing, and managing monitoring and evaluation systems, ensuring data quality, and analyzing data to support performance improvement of programs
  •  Previous experience working with various development/social donors/programs Demonstrated ability to portray complex data sets in easy-to-understand formats including visualizations.
  •  Demonstrated ability to perform complex data analytics utilizing Microsoft Excel, SPSS and/or other statistical software; and make recommendations based on findings
