Organizational Description

 The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the first professional associations in Ethiopia. The Association has been formally established on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members and through a formal charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I and is member of World Medical Association since 1994 G.C.

EMA’s head office is based in Addis Ababa and has a presence in five regions represented by its nine regional branch offices (Gonder, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Harare, Hawassa and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 57 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ). The mission of the association is to: Ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; Promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and Ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice

Thus, the association would like to invite experienced and competent candidates for the  listed vacant post of Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation

Job Summary

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, under the supervision of the project manager, is responsible for guiding the overall M&E system design, M&E plan and implementation strategies, the provision of M&E technical assistance, and related supporting activities to the various programs of the association.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy an effective M&E system to assist program managers to measure program progress and impediments.
  • Design data collection methodologies appropriate to program interventions and manage data collection and analysis process.
  • Analyze and evaluate data to ensure achievements of objectives and recommend corrective action, when necessary.
  • Ensure that findings are effectively communicated to all staff and partner organizations and used in all stages of the program design process.
  • Provide monitoring and evaluation advice to program staff and counterparts.
  • Maintain databank of critical indicators and feed future programs with such data that could be useful to program design and implementation.
  • In collaboration with program managers, prepare status reports required for management, donors, program analysis and annual reporting.
  • Supervise field activities progress
  • Initiate Best practice documentation and dissemination
  • Provide trainings for staff on data management, best practice documentation etc. as per the need
  • Update and follow the database/registration of the practicing physicians/Medical doctors and Medical students annually in collaboration with Members affairs and IT department and Ethiopian Medical Students Association respectively.
  • Prepare and update the database of partners/donor profiles and potential member’s organizations in collaboration with the staff.
  • Update the database of members profile in collaboration with the Members affairs and IT department and regional office representatives
  • Establish, manage and update regional based members data base in collaboration with Chapter office representatives (if necessary, at facility level)
  • Initiate and conduct research
  • Prepare data tracking mechanisms and work in collaboration with FMOH M&E unit to ensure contribution of EMA in the health care system
  • Prepare policy briefs and Provide data for policy makers in consultation with supervisors and heads.
  • Take part in preparation of magazines, newsletter and other publications of the association as needed
  • Take part in program planning, proposal writing, documenting best practices and monitoring project activities
  • Participate on research design, sample selection, data management, analysis, and overall research project management.
  • Do other activities as per the need of the organization and guidance form supervisors and other staff

Position Grade: VII

Job Requirements

Education and Qualification

  • MA/BA in Project Management / Economics /Management / Business Administration or MPH, MSc /BSc in statistics, public health or related fields
  • Minimum of 3 /5 years of wide-ranging experience in same or related position in NGO sector.
  • Knowledge and experience in using standardized statistical packages with proven experience in developing and manipulating monitoring and evaluation tools.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Computer Training Certificate
  • SPSS or other Statistical application Software training
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Good planning, reporting and prioritizing skills;
  • Demonstrable professionalism and facilitation abilities;
  • Strong computer application skills and familiar with relevant software;
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Flexible and able to work well under pressure and strong team player.
