ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

 The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the first professional associations in Ethiopia and was stablished on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members through a formal charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I. EMA is member of World Medical Association since 1994 G.C.

EMA’s head office is based in Addis Ababa and has a presence in five regions represented by its ten regional branch offices (Gonder, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Harare, Hawassa, D/Markos and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 59 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ). The mission of the association is to: Ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; Promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice

Job summary

 Under the supervision of the Program Development & Management Department Manager, the Project Officer is responsible for facilitating project activities and closely works with program staff and partners. S/he assists in preparation of project/program implementation plans, budgets and carries out proper implementation of the project /programs. The project officer will be responsible to handles all the facilitation functions of trainings, workshops, conferences and any other events of the association and other specific program or project activities.

  Major roles and responsibilities

  •  Assist in preparation of project/program implementation plans, budgets and carry out proper implementation of the project/program pertinent to the responsibility;
  • Be responsible to facilitate trainings, workshops, conferences, seminars and any other scientist events
  • Follows the proper utilization of project funds and budgets together with the program management and development manager
  • Participate in the preparation of training materials to train the lay helpers/counselors based on for the world bank’s stress management intervention pilot research project among women entrepreneurs in Ethiopia
  • Assist and guide in arranging logistical necessities of counselors for weekly calls and message to be facilitated by the counselors
  • Develop a progress monitoring tool to track the frequency and duration of the guided conversations;
  • Involve in Global Health Advocacy Incubation (GHAI) project implementation in collaboration with project team;
  • Provides technical and professional support to program area to ensure quality and appropriateness of project/program intervention as well as ensure its sustainability;
  • Organizes and facilitates different trainings and other program interventions;
  • Takes part in developing concept notes and project proposals;
  • Works with program staffs on a range of tasks aimed at strengthening the program area’s projects/programs;
  • Prepares training materials, proceedings, posters, reports, etc as deemed necessary;
  • Takes responsibility in organizing and updating the necessary information for programs concerning health related policies and regulations;
  • Takes a responsibility of the coordination and management of projects/programs;
  • Cooperates with other project/program staffs in implementing the day to day activities of the project as planned;
  • Implements and follows the accomplishment of different activities of projects/programs;
  • Performs other related activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Duration: 6 months fixed contract

Duty station: Addis Ababa with frequent filed travel

Job Requirements

Position Requirement

  •  Education: MPH/MSC or BSc in Health related professions and trainings on project management disciplines is an advantage
  • Experience: 4/6yrs relevant experience in health programs and familiarity with the Ethiopian health sector transformation plan and other regulations.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Having good planning and prioritizing skills.
  • Having demonstrable professionalism and facilitation abilities.
  • Having strong computer application skills.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic

Desired Criteria (An Asset)

  • Experience in International NGO environment is advantageous.
