Job Summary

  • Under the supervision of the Project coordinator, the OVC service officer is responsible to provide technical oversight and support for the OVC service-related activities of the activity of Family focused HIV prevention, care and treatment activities in ISHDO implementing 12 towns of Oromia region.
  • The OVC Service officer scope focuses specifically on effective OVC reach and impact mitigation strategy and approaches, which included OVC case management through identification of OVCs; rapid needs assessment of OVCs and provision of services to OVC and siblings and caretakers.
  • The OVC officer is also responsible for providing technical assistance and support to community volunteers and project-based staffs to implement case management establishing and maintaining effective referral networks; and fostering an environment to provide minimum package of services to OVC with quality standards.
  • The OVC service officer   will also be responsible to the delivery of OVC targets assigned to the catchment towns, provide Support training, mentoring and supervision in providing care for people living with HIV (PLHIV) including nutritional assessments and ART adherence support, referrals to testing, prevention clubs and other services for OVCs. The OVC service officer is also responsible to facilitate primary HIV and violence prevention among 9-14 adolescents using PEPFAR approved curriculums of IMpower, Synovio and CBIM  rollout and reach beneficiaries for behavior change

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Implementing partners to understand and implement comprehensive OVC and primary prevention services to adolescents in the catchment areas.
  • Ensure guidelines, SOPs and manuals on OVC programming are distributed and implemented as per the standard
  • Facilitate capacity building trainings to Caseworkers, social workers, Economic strengthening teams to ensure it is cascaded to volunteer case workers.
  • Monitoring, mentoring and providing supportive supervision to partner organization the services provided to OVC and their caretakers.
  • Follow-up and support to Partners in establishing village loan and saving association to reduce economic vulnerability of affected households and individuals
  • Support planning and facilitation of technical workshops and capacity building training in OVC programming, HIV/AIDS, BCC, etc.
  • Ensuring the provision of high quality OVC services by partners through regular follow-up and support.
  • Ensuring deliverables and targets on Comprehensive OVC and primary prevention are on the right track on regular bases
  • Drawing and documenting lessons, best practices and writing success stories.
  • Provide technical assistance to partner organizations in key areas of OVC programming, HIV/AIDS prevention, family approach to Palliative care and support
  • Represent ISHDO in meetings, technical working groups and other forums as needed
  • Provide technical support project technical staff.
  • Facilitate and support  primary HIV and violence prevention among 9-14 adolescents using PEPFAR approved curriculums of IMpower, Synovio and CBIM  rollout and reach beneficiaries for behavior change in the catchment area of
  • Support the development of annual and quarterly plans, monthly, quarterly and annual quality reports on timely bases.
  • Prepare and submit regular and timely performance reports to the project coordinator adhering to USAID web-based reporting requirements.

Job Requirements

Required education and experiences

  • MA/MPH. BA/BSC in health , social science, social work or relevant discipline
  • 3/5 years of progressive experience in OVC programming in similar settings respectively, at least 2 years of experience in PEPFAR/ USAID funded programs for HIV/AIDS, preferably in an NGO setting.
  • Skills and experience in monitoring, recording keeping, and reporting of the HIV prevention, care and treatment programs using the USAID web-based data base system commcare etc.

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work and deliver in teams
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic and local language knowledge  in Oromifa

Fluency in Microsoft Office
