Peace Building officer- IcSP (Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace) Project 72 views

Purpose of the position:

To provide leadership to the peace building component of the Global Alliance for the Right of Ethiopian (GARE) project. In collaboration with the project coordinator and the peace building unit the job holder is fully responsible for the smooth, cost effective, efficient and timely implementation of the project activities as per the implementation plan and allocated budget. Coordinate and collaborate with WVE’s Peace Building Unit and other external stakeholders to ensure the peace building components of the project are implemented as per agreed standards. Ensure stakeholders’ participation and involvement in peace building activities for success of their development process for sustainability. To facilitate GARE initiatives are geared towards reducing both intra and inter-community conflicts between the Gedeo and West Guji communities.

 Major Responsibilities

1. Serving as GARE project’s focal person for of Peace Building develop peace building activities implementation strategy.

• Create and maintain relationships with key actors of the community in the project area. Create awareness and assist formation and sustenance of local youth and other actors in the project area
• Coordinate the training material development and/or adaptation for the peace building section of the GARE project.  Conduct rapid assessment to come up with innovative approaches to increase learning in collaboration with governments, partners and contractors.
• Collaborate with local government leadership, religious leaders and the local youth plan, develop, and produce tools and communication vehicles to enhance capacities, policies and systems leading to improved social cohesion in the target areas
• Reviewing the technical quality of the PB aspect of the project by conducting site visits to project locations and providing technical assistance on activity implementation, monitoring progress and evaluating performance, reviewing and analyzing results, and recommending changes in implementation.

Job Requirements

• The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
• MA or BA in Peace-Building, Sociology, International Relations, Conflict studies, Theology or other related field and at least 2 years for MA and 5 years for BA field experience working with Communities in Peace-Building programming focusing in an NGO context.
• Strong communication skills with demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, emotional maturity and physical stamina
• Strong problem solving, interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Ability to work with different partners such as religious leaders, local authorities and CSOs, to develop and maintain positive relationships and demonstrable ability to work in and contribute to team building environment
• Stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources
• Ability to cope and deal with stress and work under stressful work conditions is a requirement
• Ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific local cultural context
• Knowledgeable of MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc.
• Perform other duties as required.
