Three Roots International (TRI) started operations in Ethiopia in January 2017 through a 3-year Memorandum of Understanding, with the Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church Development Commission (EKHC-DC) in Oromia Regional State in East Showa Zone in Bishoftu Town Administration in Gandgorba Kebele. Together with the EKHC-DC, TRI has sought for several years now to address the complex problem of multidimensional poverty.

TRI is currently registered as a Foreign Charity by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), under Registration No. 4931. The mission of TRI is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities. Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator ensures that all TRI projects are designed, implemented and completed on time and within designated budget. S/he will oversee the project/s activities to ensure the project objectives are met the desired results and are achieved as per the target/s. S/he manages the field-based TRI staff to work effectively, and resources are used in a most efficient way ensuring the various interest groups involved are satisfied.  S/he is responsible for the proper implementation of project works in the field and management of organizational properties.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will:

  • Develop strategic partnerships with local stakeholders and government offices;
  • Manage and leverage relationships with partners to greater collective impact;
  • Provide support and knowledge-transfer for partners and agencies;
  • Develop and manage partner agreements in the project implementation region/location;
  • Develop and manage information gathering and data collection networks;
  • Research current trends and changes in the areas of implementation;
  • Ensure project activities are completed within the specified timeframe meeting deadlines;
  • Work closely with TRI staff to ensure the activities are dealt with according to the action plan;
  • Frequently travel to field sites and provide supportive supervisions to staff and partners;
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests;
  • Organize distribution of goods to the field sites, and ensure a safe arrival of supplies;
  • Liaise with clients to define requirements and scope to meet organizational needs;
  • Lead in organizing workshops and trainings based on specific needs of beneficiaries and plan;
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholders’ meetings and other relevant meetings;
  • Analyze potential project risks and opportunities and devise appropriate risk mitigation measures and opportunities cultivation plan;
  • Create and maintain project documents and generate progress/completion report for activities;
  • Document best practices, provide recommendation for work plans, and annual reviews;
  • Be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables;
  • Be responsible for preparation and submission of activity reports, meeting minutes and financial reports on regular basis to TRI country office;
  • Oversee the submission of annual activity-based project budgets as well as monthly and quarterly financial reports and submitting new funding requests;
  • Will be the main contact point for the field staff, lead and motivate the team, and coordinate work with consultants and volunteers;
  • Ensure close collaboration and cooperation with key partners to ensure smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as planned;
  • Employ resourcefulness in project design, implementation and monitoring project activities and project expenditure;
  • Troubleshoot project problems, and identify and implement creative solutions;
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to all concerned parties;
  • Supervise, coach, train and evaluate performance of staff under her/his supervision;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements

Required Qualification, Experience & Skills:

  • Have at least University Degree in Development Studies, Project Management or other related disciplines
  • Has at least 10 years of relevant project design, coordination and management experience
  • Has excellent MS Office application skills including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, MS-Power point, etc.
  • Proficiency in English and Amharic languages; knowledge of local languages is desirable
  • Proven team building, management and motivation experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff locally and from distance
  • Proven coordination and time management skills
  • Proven communication and negotiation skills

Required Travel: Frequent travels within project implementation areas
