Three Roots International /TRI/ is registered as a Foreign Non-Profit Organization by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), under Registration No. 4931. The mission of TRI is to cultivate community development and economic capacity by empowering families through education, health, and income generating activities. Through our integrated focus on these three dimensions of life, we strengthen families for flourishing futures. Currently, TRI operates its program in Oromia Regional State in East Showa Zone in Bishoftu City Administration in Gandgorba Kebele.  TRI invites you, the qualified candidate, to apply for the following position. Job Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the project.  He/she is expected to meet and exceed the organization’s performance and delivery goals. He/she ensures that all TRI projects are designed, implemented and completed on time and within the designated budget. She/he will oversee the project/s activities to ensure the project objectives meet the desired outcomes are achieved… She/he manages the field-based TRI staff to work effectively, and to ensure that resources are used in the most efficient way.She/he is responsible for project design, implementation, and review.

Key Result Areas:

  • The success of this role is measured by key result areas which are listed below:
  • Leading the TRI project office staff in designing and implementing programming in collaboration with government and civil society partners;
  • Ensuring sound project design and logic; as well as data management of program data;
  • Advancing all levels of stakeholder relationships that further TRI’s work in the target area;.
  • Designing tools and templates to improve, optimize and streamline all areas of implementation, learning, and coordination.
  • Increase efficiency and quality of project implementation by analyzing gaps and barriers, identify optimization opportunities, and troubleshoot issues in processes and workflows.
  • Research and implement best practices for transformational and sustainable development in rural contexts..

Specific Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Manage project design cycle, and ensure responsive programming.
  • Develop and maintain a monitoring and evaluation system to ensure effective and relevant data collection; develop and manage information gathering and data collection tools
  • Ensure and coordinate the timely submission of financial and activity reports covering the assigned component of the project, to be incorporated in the overall project financial and narrative report.
  • Optimize quarterly and annual project review process and coordination
  • Contribute to the wide dissemination and visibility of project achievements, and support mechanisms for exchange of information, experience and lessons learned at the local levels.
  • Identify and manage risks so that maximum benefit to beneficiaries and stakeholders is achieved.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and effective coordination among relevant project actors like local governments, and non-governmental organizations or other relevant partners for collective impact, manage partner agreements and ensure close collaboration
  • Research current trends and changes in the areas of implementation;
  • Ensure project activities are completed within the specified timeframe meeting deadlines;
  • Frequently travel to community field sites and provide supportive supervision to staff and partners;
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests;
  • Organize distribution of goods to the field sites, and ensure a safe arrival of supplies;
  • Lead in organizing workshops and trainings based on specific needs of beneficiaries and plan;
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholders’ meetings and other relevant meetings; provide support and knowledge-transfer for partners and agencies;
  • Analyze potential project risks and opportunities and devise appropriate risk mitigation measures and opportunities cultivation plan;
  • Oversee the submission of annual activity-based project budgets as well as monthly and quarterly financial reports; submit new funding requests;
  • Lead and motivate the field office staff, and coordinate work with consultants and volunteers; supervise, coach, train and evaluate performance of staff under her/his supervision;
  • Troubleshoot project problems, and identify and implement creative solutions;
  • Provide feedback to the Country Director on policy, supporting guidance with an aim towards continuous improvement of Three Roots policies.
  • Ensure safety and security for all field staff and comply with Three Roots standards;

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Have at least University Degree in Development Studies, Project Management, Economics or other related disciplines. Additional training and certification in project management would be an advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant project design, coordination and management experience is required at the national or international level in the areas of community development, 2 of these years must be with an international NGO
  • Previous experience in rural community development; including project design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competence to quickly problem-solve work planning issues to mitigate delays and support timely delivery.
  • Excellent MS Office application skills including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, MS-Power point, etc.
  • Previous experience using Google Drive and Workspace an advantage
  • Previous use of Kobo Toolbox is desirable
  • Excellent computer skills and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling web based management systems.
  • Adaptability changing situations, overcomes obstacles and recovers quickly from set-backs
  • Proven ability for team building, management and motivation experience and to foster team synergy.
  • Extensive experience in managing a multidisciplinary team

Language Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Amharic as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications;  knowledge of Afan Oromoo is desirable.
