Job Description

Place Of Work:  Afar(Semera), Amhara(Kombolcha/B/Dar)

Contract Duration: Six Months

  • The position holder is in charge of coordinating the protection sector interventions, harmonizing different CP/GBV projects implemented in different woredas across the region, facilitating mainstreaming of protection themes into other sectors and capacity building for stakeholders and local partners.
  • Reporting to the respective Program Hub Lead, the incumbent is mandated with spearheading initial assessment of child protection/GBV risks in the operational areas of WVE using global standards and tools and compile relevant data on vulnerability of children and women. Regularly attend protection cluster meetings and coordination platforms representing WVE, summarize periodic reports and send to HO’s CPP team.
  • Provide technical lead to CP/GBV coordinators and project officers in conducting protection risk assessment, detail activity planning, and implementation and monitoring of interventions.
  • Coordinate effective delivery of individual and group psychological first aid/psycho-social support and mental health services to children and women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
  • Provide technical support for CP/GBV project coordinators designated to each the areas to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Actively participate in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly cluster meetings as it applies representing WVE and contribute to visibility and advocacy efforts.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines and good practices for child protection, GBV and MHPSS in emergency related activities
  • Work closely with HO team to ensure delivery of quality inputs for proposal and budget development to meet the specific protection needs of vulnerable women and children in the region during project design.
  • Review and produce quality reports on CP/GBV project implementation and maintain good rapport with donors as necessary

Job Requirements

  • BA in social work, sociology, psychology, Law or other relevant fields.
  • At least Five years relevant experience in coordination of child protection, Gender-based violence, MHPSS and related areas Knowledge and experience on humanitarian response programming is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated emergency responses including MHPSS, CP and GBV.
  • Proposal and report writing skills. Good knowledge of donor grants and contract regulations. Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Knowledge and experience on humanitarian response programming is an asset.
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms.
  • Direct case management and experience working with children, women and adolescents is an asset.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.

Required Training

  •  Extensive training in the fields of CP/GBV, psycho-social wellbeing, case management and application of international technical guidelines and standards in Child Protection and GBV.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Ability to deliver quality programs in a desirable time and work under stressful conditions. Proven ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Local languages
  • Direct case management and experience working with children, women and adolescents is an asset
