Mekdim Ethiopia National Association (MENA) is an indigenous non-governmental Organization working in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention, Care, treatment and Support services over the past 2 decades nationally. MENA is now in the process of recruiting employees for its new prospective Ethiopia Epidemic Control grant; HIV Care and Treatment services by USAID and invites Competent Candidates to apply for the following vacant position of Senior Accountant.
Role and Responsibilities
- Fulfill MENA and funder reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner;
- Manage field and branch office payments, vendor and partner inquiries and invoice processing;
- Compile monthly rolling budgets, and monitor daily expenditures, reconciliations and bank transactions;
- Review and record expenses and ensure that advances are reconciled;
- Prepares and processes payroll for project employees;
- Responsible for preparing all statutory returns (e.g. VAT,) as required by the respective government authorities;
- Ensure that branch office property is kept securely and the office inventory us updated regularly;
- Handle branch office procurement processes in compliance with MENA and funder requirements;
- Maintains an understanding of funder and MENA policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight.
- Ensure that project staffs have a strong understanding MENA’s accounting policies and procedures and provide training as needed;
- Travel from time to time to support field office staffs and procurement needs; and
- Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor in support of MENA’s work in Adama branch.
Term of Employment:
- One year contractual agreement with possible opportunity of extension based on performance and fund availability
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- A university graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or a related subject;
- A minimum 5 years’ relevant professional experience in an accounting environment, preferably with an international non-profit organization or USAID donor-funded project;
- Fluent in written and spoken English (other language fluency a plus);
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and IPSAS training.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite with a good command of Excel and basic accounting software packages; and
- Must be able to travel to project field area, and work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Organizational and communication skills;
- Ability to work under strict deadlines;
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with US government funder rules and regulations;
- Experience with Prime accounting system; and
- Strong time management and organizational skills, including resourcefulness and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and efficiently.
