Background

EPHA has been implementing the David and Lucile Packard Foundation funded Reproductive Health/Family Planning grants to expand and increase access to quality and comprehensive community based Family Planning services. Recently, EPHA began a three year (October, 2016- September, 2019) RH/FP project which aims to support the national IUCD through level–IV HEWs’ initiatives via building the competency of Level IV HEWs, equipping health posts, strengthening referral linkage, community engagement and generating evidence based information.

One of the main project activity is building the skill of level-IV HEWs on provision of long acting FP methods mainly IUCD through competency based training using the national comprehensive FP training manuals and tools.  These trainings are planned to be held in Jimma, Bedele, Mettu, Gimbi, Nekemte, and Ambo towns and the practical attachments are planned to be conducted in health centers/health posts at surrounding Woredas.

Thus, EPHA is looking for senior FP trainers who are qualified and will successfully accomplish the following responsibilities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update training course materials like PPT, pre-posttest, course evaluation formats using Oromiffa based on the current training curriculum of FP.
  • Facilitate the theoretical session of the training
  • Coach and mentor trainees during model demonstration/simulation and practical attachment sessions.
  • Assess the knowledge and skills of trainees throughout the course/training (pre-post and end of each module, demonstration using learning check list checklist).
  • Ensure proper handling of FP training materials and tools (make sure each required items is ready and available, collect from training focal person, inform immediately and collaborate for the re-placement, if any missed item).
  • Assess the training and its approach using appropriate formats (collect these formants, and compile the trainees’ feedbacks (daily evaluation, trainees’ evaluation) ….)
  • Ensure that the safety of the clients and quality of service are always maintained during practical sessions
  • Document the lists of trainees’ assigned to him/her for practical attachment session including the assessment results.
  • Return and Submit equipment and items he/she has taken for practical session for the training coordinator
  • Properly record the profile of long acting FP methods users who have got service by each trainee (insertion or removal using format) and submit to training coordinator.
  • Provide complete report based on reporting format at the end of the training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the training coordinator.

Duration of contract

The assignment is scheduled to commence in April 2020, and will continue for months on a contract base. The duration of one round training is 13 days including travel days and contractual agreement will be made for each round.

Job Requirements

Education: 

  • BSc in Midwifery, Nursing, HO or MD with four and above years of work experience 
  • MPH with clinical background with 2 and above years of work experience

Mandatory/basic requirement

  • Master trainer/ToT in LAFP –  the applicant has to submit the certificate
  • Demonstrable clinical experience in FP client counseling and insertion/removal of LAFP methods at health facility level (evidence of working in this aspect is required)
  • Additional requirement
  • Proven and extensive past similar experience in training healthcare workers on Comprehensive FP service mainly LAFP methods in collaboration with government health Offices and/or NGOs (written experience or certificate is required).
  • Other Skills required
  • Proven oral and written communication abilities in English and a local language (Afan Oromo)
  • Computer proficiency in basic Microsoft package
  • Good at team work
  • Able to accomplish multi task and respond to multiple requests, and handle urgent requests from different levels
  • Ability to travel to rural health center/health posts
