JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Senior Import Officer plays a key role in overseeing and managing the importation process, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing efficiency. This position involves coordination with suppliers, customs authorities, and internal stakeholders to facilitate the smooth flow of imported goods.
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Coordinate with international suppliers to obtain necessary documentation, such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
2. Ensure compliance with import regulations and customs requirements for all imported goods, including tariff classifications, duty rates, and trade agreements.
3. Prepare and submit import documentation, including import declarations, customs clearance forms, and import permits, to customs authorities.
4. Liaise with customs brokers and freight forwarders to arrange for the clearance and transportation of imported shipments.
5. Monitor the progress of import shipments and resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the customs clearance process.
6. Maintain accurate import records and documentation, including import licenses, customs declarations, and shipping documents, in compliance with record-keeping requirements.
7. Coordinate with internal departments, such as procurement, logistics, and finance, to ensure timely receipt and payment of imported goods.
8. Stay informed about changes in import regulations, trade policies, and customs procedures that may impact import operations.
9. Identify opportunities to streamline import processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in import operations.
10. Provide guidance and support to junior import staff, including training on import regulations and procedures.
Basic Education:
- BA in Management/Economics/Accounting/Logistics and supply chain management or other related field.
- Preferable for having training in Ethiopian Electronic Single window
Work Experience:
- Experience Minimum 2 years in international business or customs related experience.
