GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Maintenance supervisor and Engineers/production supervisors, the Welder Mechanic has the duty and responsibility to perform cleaning, grinding, cutting and welding of different type work pieces using standard technique to ensure high quality welding, participate on inspection activities throughout the plant and perform workshop technician duties as necessary.

DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implements and maintains the Quality Management System and continual strive for improvement;
• Ensures all activities function within the objective to meet and exceed customer needs and expectations;
• Adheres to and be guided with the collective labor agreement, internal regulations and other relevant statutory instructions and orders;
• Takes direct responsibility of use, proper handling, control, and protection of company property or any other material at his disposal;

• Studies the assigned work and determines the material requirements for carrying it out;
• Cleans the material before welding;
• Committed to prevention of environmental pollution and create safe and healthy working condition;
• Obtains and arranges the necessary materials and tools for welding;
• Makes the necessary layout of metals to be cut or welded whenever needed;
• Prepares parts for welding by cutting, grinding, bending etc. including all necessary bench works;
• Uses materials and electrodes at economical level;
• Selects appropriate electrode and welding method and welds machinery components such as body, shafts, glands, impellers, pipes, sheet metal and structural works;
• Works as a maintenance mechanic when there is no welding work;
• Assigns work to his helper and controls his work;
• Keeps welding machines and tools in good condition;
• Keeps control the safety of oxygen bottle and acetylene generator while working and conveying;
• Participates in factory overhaul and maintenance works as assigned;
• Makes use of available safety device while doing his job ;
• Accepts and integrates  safety rules and guide lines to his work ;
• Performs other related tasks as required.

EDUCATION    Level II or equivalent grade complete in general mechanics
