Job Description
- The Environmental Protection, Health and Safety Officer Work involves conducting inspections, surveys, assessments, or investigations to ensure compliance with environmental laws; evaluating environmental impact; and identifying health and safety hazards and other issues that can affect the health of the environment or population around the factory.
Detail duties and responsibilities
- Develops and/or interprets and implements specific requirements overall environmental issues in accordance with applicable environmental laws, executive orders, and regulations, SOPs, and other environmental guidance as deemed applicable, as available and applicable,
- Exercises knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices related to environmental protection,
- Performs work related environmental protection practices to protect or improve environmental quality, control pollution, remedy environmental damage, and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations,
- Ensures implementation of principles and methods of administering environmental protection programs, laws, and regulations,
- Reviews and analyzes statutes, regulations, permit/licensing requirements, precedent decisions governing environmental operations used in planning, implementing, and monitoring local environmental compliance and environmental management systems,
- Provides technical expertise for a wide range of environmental protection issues or concerns including air, potable water, wastewater, hazardous materials/waste, solid waste, asbestos abatement, noise, underground storage tanks,
- Develop, analyze, evaluate, and modify the company’s environmental protection, policies, and procedures for improvement,
- Performs duties related to environmental protection, such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and various other environmental protection regulations,
- Performs duties involving surveillance and/or handling of hazardous waste,
- Monitors applicable regulations on Environmental Protection,
- Prepares reporting to the relevant government administration bodies on fulfilling duties resulting from regulations on Environmental Protection, waste management, water and sewage management,
- Supervises waste management, cooperation with units dealing with waste management,
- Cooperates with units dealing with other environmental themes and with environmental institutions,
- Initiating and implementing operations and cooperation in implementation of investments and solutions of organizational and technical nature which aim to the constant improvement of the state of natural environment and reduction of the impact of the plant on the natural environment, in particular management of pro-environmental Real Estate projects,
- Strategy planning and operational control related to environmental protection (energy, water, waste, soil, emissions, biodiversity, emergency response),
- Liaison and negotiating with relevant regulatory agencies and other external interested parties to provide maximum flexibility for future process and model changes,
- Developing, implementing, maintaining and monitoring the environmental management system compliant with ISO14001,
- Assisting in provision of competence, training and awareness on environmental protection,
- Contributing to effective internal and external environmental communication,
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of BA Degree in environmental protection or relevant field of studies with a minimum of five years’ experience at a supervisory level,
- Higher qualification in a relevant field with suitable professional qualification(s) recognized University Degree / Diploma in Chemical, Environmental, Sustainability, Industrial Engineering or similar,
- Combined knowledge in a related environmental field with sound comprehension of production & manufacturing operations, preferably in the car manufacturing industry,
- Experience steering and working in cross-functional and international teams,
- Experience in implementing and maintaining an organization certified as environmental management system,
- Established network and contacts to regulatory bodies,
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, at all working levels,
- English and Amharic and or Afan Oromo,
