About the Job

Under the supervision of the Technical Head/ MCH Specialty Centre Manager, The Midwife Nurse at the MCH Specialty Center is responsible for providing comprehensive prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care to mothers and infants. This role involves managing normal pregnancies, identifying complications, and promoting the overall health and well-being of mothers and their babies. The Midwife Nurse will work closely with obstetricians, gynecologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality maternal and child health services with professional code of conduct.

  1. DUTIES/TASKS

Prenatal Care:

  • Conduct regular antenatal check-ups, including physical examinations and assessments of fetal health.
  • Provide education and counseling to expectant mothers on nutrition, exercise, and preparation for childbirth.
  • Monitor and manage common pregnancy-related conditions and refer complicated cases to obstetricians as needed.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests

Labor and Delivery:

  • Ensures all instruments needed for delivery services are readily in place;
  • Assist in the labor and delivery process, providing support and guidance to mothers during childbirth.
  • Monitor the progress of labor and identify any signs of complications.
  • Administer pain relief and other medications as necessary.
  • Perform normal deliveries and assist obstetricians in complicated deliveries.
  • Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols during delivery.
  • Provides immediate newborn care.

Postnatal Care:

  • Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including physical examinations and assessments.
  • Educate mothers on breastfeeding, newborn care, and postnatal recovery.
  • Monitor for and manage postpartum complications and consult as needed.
  • Support mothers in establishing effective infant feeding practices.
  1. Family Planning and Reproductive Health
  • Provide counseling and education on family planning methods and reproductive health.
  • Administer family planning methods such as contraceptive injections and implants.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits and manage any side effects or complications.

Health Promotion and Education:

  • Conduct health education sessions on maternal and child health topics for individuals and groups.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and preventive care measures among clients.
  • Advocate for maternal and child health services within the community.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all clients as standard of MSIE guidelines.
  • Avails herself / himself to regular stock taking and audit as and when required.
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports as required.
  • Ensures proper receipt, storage, safe keep, issuance and timely placement of orders of surgical instruments and medical supplies for theatre by pre-establishing re-order level and regular replenishment of enough stocks of the same.
  • Make an on-time report for the clinical incident happened in the center as per the guideline of MSIE.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and protocols for maternal and child health services.
  • Attend regular team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of services.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior staff and student midwives.

About You

Qualifications Requirements

  1. Education

BSc/Diploma in Midwifery

Experience

  1. Four years with Diploma in Midwifery. Two years of experience need for BSc

  • Proficient in midwifery techniques and procedures, including normal deliveries and emergency interventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to educate and counsel clients effectively.
  • Strong commitment to providing compassionate care to mothers and infants.
  • Ability to quickly identify and respond to complications during pregnancy, labor, and postnatal care.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize care effectively.
  • Collaborative approach to working with healthcare professionals and support staff.
  • Meticulous in record-keeping and adherence to protocols and standards.
  • Respectful and understanding of diverse cultural practices related to childbirth and maternal care.
