Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, has realized a project called Project Zero/PZ/ with the aim of eradicating obstetric fistula from Ethiopia. We already launched this program at Oromia Region, Illu ababora Zone, Mettu.  We want also ensure this project in Oromia Region, East Hararege Zone, Fedis Woreda. The project work focuses on identifying historic cases of obstetric fistula, and transferring to the Harar Hamlin fistula treatment center for treatment. And continue to implement quality interventions for the prevention of new obstetric fistula cases by building the capacity of the midwives working in the region’s Hamlin Supported government health facilities and improving the service rendered to all pregnant mothers who visit those health centers. For the successful implementation of the project, HFE needs to employ experienced candidate to be part of the project’s interventions, trainings, and mentorship in the areas as per the given job responsibilities.

 

Job Summary 

 

To collaborate and technically support the team and relevant Zonal and Woreda offices and other stakeholders in the prevention of obstetric fistula, Identification and referral of hidden obstetric fistula patients and facilitate their treatment. Actively participate in project –Zero Fistula Eradication project team activities.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities of prevention Officer includes the following, but are not limited to:

 

  • As a member of Project- Zero team, coordinate Zonal Health desk, Woreda Health Offices, Health Centers, health posts and other stakeholders to identify hidden fistula cases, awareness creation and strengthen the existing referral system.
  • Coordinate activities for patient identification and facilitate for treatment in collaboration with the project –Zero team at Tigray Hamlin fistula center and other partners as per the action plan of the national fistula task force.
  • Submit timely report providing details of patient identification, trainings and other activities.
  • Organize trainings to Health Center staff and health Extension Workers on fistula patient identification and referral linkage.
  • Participate in organizing resources to make sure that individual plans for patient reintegration and livelihood care appropriately implemented.
  • Participate on project Zero pregnant women cohort study and other surveys as part of fistula prevention.
  • Participate in Monitoring and evaluation activities of the project.
  • Participate in training of HEWs on using mobile data entering software (application).
  • Perform other related tasks as requested by the center head and the project team leader.

About You

Key competencies and professional expertise required:

 

  • Excellent skill of computer software packages; previous experience with District Health Information System (DHIS) database packages preferred.
  • Fluent in Afaan Oromo, English, and Amharic languages and able to communicate with other local languages is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication skills, able to work well both within a team and independently under stressful conditions.
  • Proven clinical experience, working in the delivery of maternal, and child health service.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing service delivery protocols, norms and standards.

 

Education Requirement 

 

  • BSc Degree in Midwifery, nursing, public health and/or MSc in maternal and child health related fields

Work Experience 

 

  •  5 + years’ in clinical experience at health center level in mobilizing community based program.
