About the Job

Purpose of the Job:

To provide technical support to Senior Director and Regional Directors of the Monitoring and Investigation Department in undertaking legal research, development of departmental policies, guidelines, manuals and tools.

SALARY RANGE; Gross monthly salary of ETB 23,126.00 – ETB 26,219.00 plus ETB 8,640.00 Housing allowance and ETB 3,300.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake human rights research and systemic investigation on laws, practices and issues pertaining treatment of suspects, detainees and prisoners as well as administration of prisons and police custody
  • Draft model laws and guidelines that could be used by prison and police commissions for treatment of suspects, detainees and prisoners and could serve as a basis for EHRC advocacy
  • Review and draft departmental guidelines, manuals, tools and systems
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing monitoring/investigation and quarterly and annual performance reports
  • Perform additional assignments provided by senior and regional directors
About You

Qualifications and Experience:

  • LLM/LLB in Human Rights, LLM in International Law, LLM in law (Public Law relevant to human Rights)
  • Candidates with bachelor of Law (LLB) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
  • 5 years of relevant experience for LLM
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required.
  • Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
