The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) was founded in 2002 with a transformational goal: help save the lives of millions living with HIV/AIDS in the developing world.
When CHAI was founded, many viewed our lofty goals as unreasonable because health systems in poor countries were seen as too weak and prices of relevant drugs and diagnostic tests were too high. While important progress has been made connecting patients to essential treatment, millions of people continue to die unnecessarily from AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and other treatable diseases.
CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on both global and national level work by rapidly improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to lifesaving technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required for high-quality care and treatment programs.
