About NIMD
The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) works to strengthen inclusive, democratic political systems worldwide. To that end, we work with the entire political sector in a country, from aspiring politicians to political leaders, and from national to local level. We also engage and cooperate with civic leaders and government officials to work in an inclusive way on a national agenda for inclusive, political change. We firmly believe that politics should be inclusive and should serve the citizens; without accountable and effective political governance, it will be hard to achieve peace, stability and prosperity for all.
Our approach is unique and characterized by dialogue: we bring actors from across the political spectrum together. We work on their knowledge and competences, and empower them to cooperate in a constructive manner on issues that affect them, their country as well as the broader region. Currently, we run programmes in more than 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the MENA region and the Eastern European Neighbourhood.
In Ethiopia, NIMD’s approach is characterized by dialogue: we facilitate the dialogue between the political parties chaired by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and encourage parties to cooperate on political issues. The NIMD Ethiopia office supports this dialogue financially and through technical engagement. NIMD is also active in the largest regions of the country whereby it aims to further support dialogue at the regional and local level. In addition to dialogue facilitation, we provide capacity-building support to political parties and political actors and work on strengthening relations between political parties, parliament and civil society organizations.
