Summary of the role

Precision Development (PxD) is looking for an Agronomist to join the team in Ethiopia to support a new project to deploy customized ICT-based extension services to wheat farmers in the Oromia region, Ethiopia.

Project-Specific Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Familiarize with the scope and breadth of the project activities to effectively participate in its day-to-day implementation.
  • Plan and implement project activities in collaboration with other team members.
  • Provide agronomic expertise and advice in line with good agricultural practices.
  • Gather scientific evidence on key agriculture topics to inform the design of mobile phone-based agricultural advisory services in Ethiopia; develop, refine and revise agronomic content.
  • Support field operations. Regular field visits and monitoring of field activities.
  • Contribute to communication materials, including briefings, blogs, progress reports, presentations, and workshop and training materials.
  • Work with the team to ensure the project adheres to policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with project partners to ensure project success.
  • Contribute to PxD’s agricultural database.
  • Contribute to PxD institutional knowledge management and internal learning efforts.

About You

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and master’s in agronomy, agricultural sciences, crop production, or an industry-relevant equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Ethiopian agricultural sector and experience with digital solutions.
  • Experience contributing to agriculture, livelihood, or value chain development projects.
  • Experience working with smallholder production systems.
  • Experience drafting and contributing to training materials and reports.
  • Experience communicating agronomic topics clearly and effectively.
  • Experience conducting focus group discussions and gathering qualitative data from farmers.
  • Experience translating and transcribing scripts from English to local languages and vice versa.
  • Able to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good communication skills in Oromo and Amharic.
  • Willingness and ability to work under tight timelines, travel to project sites, and have the flexibility to engage in multiple assignments.

Desired: 

  • Experience working with CGIAR centers and national governments.

Position

  • Full-time; fixed term for an initial 12 months; extension of role is subject to project funding and staff performance

Location:

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with current and ongoing work authorization
