Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Coffee Processing & Roasting Plant Manager to oversee all operations at our Sendafa Cleaning & Roasting facility. This role involves managing the full value chain of coffee cleaning and processing, roasting, quality control, packaging, export preparation, staff and facility supervision. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both green coffee processing and roasting operations, with a commitment to quality, efficiency, and social impact. Knowledge and experience in coffee farm & washing station operations is highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coffee Processing (Green Coffee):
- Manage and oversee the full coffee processing cycle: coffee reception, weighing, packing, quality management, cleaning and processing and storage.
- Ensure traceability, quality control, and alignment with specialty coffee, organic, RA certification standards.
- Supervise production management, machine operations, inventory control operations.
2. Roasting Operations:
- Manage export and local sales operation in alignment with quality profiles and client specifications.
- Calibrate and maintain roasting machines to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Work closely with roasting and quality control team to develop and maintain roasting and cupping protocols for each roast batch.
- Ensure traceability, quality control, and alignment with specialty coffee, organic, RA certification standards.
- Supervise production management, machine operations, inventory control operations.
3. Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety, hygiene, and environmental standards (e.g., Organic, Rainforest Alliance, FSSC 22000).
- Monitor and document every stage of production to support certifications and traceability systems.
- Collaborate with internal quality management experts and external certifiers to ensure full compliance.
4. Factory Operations Management:
- Lead day-to-day operations of the plant, ensuring efficient workflow, optimal resource utilization, and minimal downtime.
- Oversee preventive maintenance of processing and roasting machinery.
- Monitor raw material inputs, inventory, and finished goods storage.
- Enforce occupational health and safety policies and conduct regular training.
5. Team Management:
- Supervise factory staff across cleaning, processing, roasting, and packaging units.
- Lead recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and team development.
- Build a strong culture of delivery accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
6. Reporting & Strategic Input:
- Provide regular reports to senior management on production KPIs, quality metrics, machine maintenance, and cost controls.
- Contribute to strategic planning, including seasonal production forecasting, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.
Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Agro-processing, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in coffee processing and/or roasting operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian coffee industry standards, ECX processes, and international export requirements.
- Hands-on experience with coffee roasting equipment and cleaning machines (e.g., Probat, Giesen, or similar).
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with quality certifications such as Organic, FSSC 22000, Rainforest Alliance….
- Competency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or production management software is a plus.
