About the Job

‘Kelem International School (KIS) is a pre-KG to Grade 10 school that was originally established under the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia in 1946 but reopened as an independent not-for-profit school in July 2019.

We are currently seeking a Middle and High School main coach for this academic year 2024-25. 

Our vision is to become a collaborative center of learning in Ethiopia, where each and every child becomes a confident and self-realized global citizen. Our mission is to facilitate the realization of every child’s full potential and develop resilient, curious, open-minded and reflective students who are able to express themselves fully and effectively.

Currently the student-body of 200 represents 28 different nationalities. Kelem International School follows the Finnish curriculum blended with international standards for G1-8 and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for KG.

Reports to: Head Coach

Coordinates with: Assistant Sport Coaches, Admissions Office, Guidance &    Counselor

Working Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 am – 5:15 pm

Job Summary

The ideal sport coach will be responsible for planning and implementing the school-adopted international curriculum, assessment and communication of student performance and the general well-being and safety of students. The coach will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of student attendance and of student performance relative to the adopted standards.

Other duties

Providing parents with comprehensive reports on their child’s progress implement the school values, discipline procedures and school culture initiatives Collaborate with other members of the school’s leadership team to create and sustain programs for students and families that recognize and celebrate achievement and continuous progress

About You

Job Requirement:

Main Sport Coaches will be responsible for advancing their students’ physical ability and knowledge of sports. They are responsible for the welfare of their students and for ensuring that students can gain the qualifications they need to advance their education in the school program.

Key Activities:

Coaching

Designing and supervising school sport lessons ensuring that children compete to their ability level motivating school children to take up new sports teach safety rules related to each activity.  These specific sports coaching are expected to be conducted:-

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball

Team Management

Promote high standards of behavior and organization by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to study and build productive relationships with students.  Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students

Recording and Assessment

Liaise with the head of department and learning support department where a student may have special educational needs assess, record and monitor the progress of all students according to faculty guidelines evaluating students’ performance demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills

Leadership

Promote a school sports culture which is positive, purposeful and professional.  To be one of the first points of contact for parental queries and enquiries about additional support needs matters in the school.  To encourage and foster good lines of communication with parents in relation to additional support needs.  Manage special needs education support students personal assistant staff to ensure they work effectively with their designated students with different needs. Develop links with professionals, schools and agencies for possible collaborations

Qualifications:

  • At least a degree in Sports Science and a level 1 coaching certificate
  • Previous sport coaching 5+ years of experience in the respective sport at an international school.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport’s rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dedication to the physical and character development of students.

Working Conditions:

This role may require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice and game schedules.  Travel may be necessary for away games or competitions.
