JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Education and Nurse educators alumni advisor for the USAID-funded JHPIEGO-led HWIP Activities plays a crucial role in coordinating project initiatives and collaborating closely with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health (MOH), Jhpiego, the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ethiopian Training Authority (ETA), and various government agencies.

The primary objective is to enhance the quality of pre-service education while strengthening the regulation of nursing program accreditation, curriculum development, and nursing practice standards.

The advisor is tasked with organizing and facilitating workshops and high-level sensitization meetings. These efforts aim to generate evidence regarding the impact of interventions by the Ethiopian Nursing Association on the quality of nursing education and practice.

The advisor develops actionable plans to coordinate projects that align with the goals and objectives of Nursing Excellence Activities.

Additionally, regular monitoring and evaluation of project progress are essential responsibilities, ensuring that best practices are documented and integrated into future planning. The advisor is also expected to showcase various initiatives to address member requests and issues, thereby attracting more nurses to join the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • With the chief executive officer and other advisors represent ENA in technical meetings, workshops, and review planning.
  • Support ENA to develop proposals for new businesses/resource mobilization/ write up of grant proposal.
  • Support ENA to develop high-quality work plans, budgets, and implementation reports as the requirements.
  • Act as a liaison for the association with relevant stakeholders and partners, specific to pre service education and regulation improvement activities and, upon demand for other meetings and activities such as planning meetings and providing inputs for implementation of program activities.
  • Coordinates and ensures efficient and effective implementation of the project with due consideration of timelines in delivering results.

Program Management & Implementation: 

  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders including Training institutions (Nursing schools) and ETA to improve the culture of continuous quality improvement and accreditation practices across higher Nursing program training institutions.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders including MOE, MoH, ETA, and training institutions in strengthening the implementation of competency-based curriculum, and faculty development for nursing faculty members.
  • Work with nursing teaching institutions to support the application of contemporary learning and assessment practices in the day-to-day teaching and mentoring of students and to operationalize curricular changes and revisions, and other educational improvement programs.
  • Facilitate competency-based training in key pedagogic areas like faculty development programs, curriculum design and implementation, student performance assessment, clinical practice, use of simulation methods and technology for learning, and self-review and accreditation.
  • Facilitates competency-based training to build the clinical skills of nursing faculty including preceptors.
  • Support the development of guidelines, standards, and follow-up systems for preceptors.
  • Work jointly with the executive director/program manager of MNA to coordinate planning and scheduling of activities and ensure the smooth implementation of project events and activities as well as the overall operations of the ENA central office.
  • Establish formal and smooth communication strategies between project implementers (ENA national and regional branch office staff, higher education institutions, etc.).
  • Participate in the development of work plans, implementation and training plans, quarterly reports, and other program deliverables.
  • Ensure that regular monitoring and evaluation of project progress are conducted, and findings of best practices are documented and fed into the planning process.
  • Continuously organize activity reports in line with the project work plan, submit them to the program unit for review, and submit them to donors and respected government organizations.
  • Provide regular technical support, guidance, and mentoring to regional branch focal representatives, department heads, and/or those working with ENA.

 

Nurses educators Alumni 

  • Advocate for Member Rights and Benefits promote the rights and benefits of members, ensuring that their voices are heard in relevant discussions and policy-making processes.
  • Facilitating smoother transitions of nurses into the workforce
  • Alumni frequently engage in mentorship programs, offering career advice and guidance to students. This relationship can help students navigate their career paths, prepare for interviews, and develop essential skills
  • Fundraising and Financial Support- Make alumni contribute financially to their alma maters, providing essential funding for nursing organizational improvements, and various programs.
  • Community Building and Engagement- foster a sense of community among graduates, facilitating connections through events and reunions.

 

Business Development 

  • Identify and communicate potential opportunities for new business and new or leveraged funding sources.
  • Contribute to proposal design and writing.
  • Develop new proposal to search for other partners/project

Knowledge Management and Sharing

  • Establish & create common understanding among implementing partners, and consortium members and ensure smooth implementation of the project.
  • Ensure that activities in the plan are rightly contributing to the attainment of the project goal.
  • Organize review meetings to evaluate the project performance against its plan and document the findings for improving results.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with organizations/ project teams and ensure timely communications and availing all project-related data.
  • Analyze critical and emerging issues during project implementation and give the necessary and appropriate responses.
  • Perform other duties assigned to him /her by the immediate supervisor

Reports To:  Chief Executive Officer

  • Duty Station: Addis Ababa with possibility of travel outside of Addis Ababa whenever the work demands.
  • Employment Type:  Three months with a potential extension based on performance

About You

Education and Qualification

  • MSc and above
  • Experience in pedagogy, effective teaching and instructional design skills
  • Understanding of performance quality improvement issues and approaches in a clinical setting; in pre-service education and in-service training,
  • Proven experience in working in direct nursing service, Nursing education, department / unit head
  • Proven experience in working with MOH, MOE, RHBs, or higher education institutions.
  • More than master’s or other equivalent level advanced training in health professions/ nursing education area is advantageous.
  • Experience in literature writing / research publication
  • Experience in I/NGO environment is advantageous.
  • Project / Program coordinating training certificate/ working practice is an added value.
