The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Ethiopia Chapter boasts a rich history rooted in a visionary commitment to gender equity in education. Established in 1994, just two years after the founding of FAWE Africa, FAWE Ethiopia emerged as part of a transformative continental movement led by five pioneering African women ministers and deputy ministers of education. Dr. Genet Zewdie, Ethiopia’s former Minister of Education, played a pivotal role in founding the chapter.

From its inception, FAWE Ethiopia has been unwavering in its mission to promote gender equality in education nationwide. As an integral member of a broader network spanning 34 chapters across Sub-Saharan Africa, the chapter has actively collaborated with government entities, local communities, schools, and international organizations to foster an inclusive educational environment.

Overview of FAWE’s Vision

FAWE Ethiopia envisions a just and inclusive Ethiopia where every girl and woman can flourish.

Position Summary: FAWE Ethiopia Chapter seeks to recruit a highly talented Programme Coordinator. The Program Coordinator will oversee the implementation and coordination of FAWE Ethiopia’s programs. This position involves managing program activities, supporting partnerships, tracking program outcomes, and ensuring that all program deliverables align with FAWE’s mission to improve access, quality, and gender equality in education. The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with government bodies, schools, TVET Colleagues, Universities, communities, and stakeholders to support the success and sustainability of FAWE programs. Besides, this role will play a vital part in advancing FAWE’s mission in Ethiopia, contributing to meaningful change for girls’ education and empowerment through strategic program implementation and stakeholder engagement as well as resource mobilization.

Contract Type: This is a full-time role with a renewable contract subject to performance and program funding. One-year performance-based contract with potential for extension.

Location: The Programme Coordinator will be based in FAWE Ethiopia Chapter, Addis Ababa with occasional travel to project sites within Ethiopia.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Program Planning and Implementation
    • Develop and implement work plans, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects.
    • Ensure timely and efficient execution of all project activities, meeting established goals and objectives.
    • Facilitate community mobilization and stakeholder engagement to encourage participation and local ownership of programs.
    • Develop programme materials, including guides, training modules, and tools, to support effective implementation.
  2. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
    • Closely work with monitoring and evaluation team to ensure the establishment of M & E frameworks to track program progress and measure outcomes.
    • Provide information on program/s to the M & E team to collect, analyze, and report program data to assess impact, document lessons learned, and recommend improvements.
    • Prepare and submit periodic progress reports, budgets, and project evaluations to the Program Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  3. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
    • Represent FAWE Ethiopia in meetings, workshops, and forums to advocate for girls’ education and empowerment initiatives.
    • Coordinate activities with partner organizations to maximize resources, share best practices, and strengthen program impact.
  4. Capacity Building and Technical Support
    • Provide technical support and capacity-building training for teachers, school staff, community leaders, and other program participants.
    • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs for students, especially for girls.
    • Support the development of local capacity to sustain programs beyond FAWE’s involvement.
  5. Resource Mobilization and Proposal Development
    • Identify funding opportunities and assist in developing grant proposals to secure program funding.
    • Support the Executive Director in cultivating donor relationships and preparing reports for donors as required.
  6. Advocacy and Awareness
    • Lead initiatives that advocate for policies and practices supporting girls’ education, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
    • Organize awareness campaigns, events, and workshops to engage communities in promoting gender equity in education.

Performance Indicators

  • Timely execution of program activities and deliverables.
  • Accuracy and comprehensiveness of program data and reports.
  • Growth in partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Effectiveness of capacity-building activities and mentorship programs.
  • Number of successful grant proposals or increased funding for programs.

About You

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Project Management, Economics or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience for MA/MSc holders or 7 years’ experience for BA/BSc holders in program coordination, preferably in education or gender-focused projects.
  • Prior experience working with NGOs, government bodies, or educational institutions is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong project management skills with a focus on planning, budgeting, and monitoring.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of gender issues, girls’ education, and empowerment in Ethiopia.
