The Role

Oxfam in Ethiopia is currently responding to the humanitarian need in the Tigray region and the Finance Officer will provide financial and grant management on a daily basis. This includes a review of financial documents and making sure payments are supported with appropriate source documents; preparation and processing of documents for payment, review, and coding of financial information and Journal entries as appropriate; assisting in data entry into the system, and maintenance of appropriate finance documentation after verifying all source documents for proper approval.

What we are looking for

The Finance Officer position will require to be an exceptional, dedicated, and highly motivated professional, with a strong commitment to Oxfam’s values and beliefs with the following qualification and competencies:

  • Bachelor (BA) or Degree from a recognized university/college in Accounting, Finance, or any other related areas that can bring added value to the job.
  • Relevant finance experience of 3-5 years for BA holders or 5-8 years for Diploma holders, preferably in an international NGO, out of which 2 years should be supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Competent in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • High-level of acquaintance comfort with internet-based research and electronic communications.
  • Results-oriented with accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity to cultural differences, and ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts
  • Strong organisational and personal management skills, with the ability to prioritize work issues to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and adjust to constantly changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
  • Ability to adjust to constantly changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through
  • Good personal communication skills, in written and verbal English and Amharic, with influencing and persuasive skills. Able to use different approaches to achieve followership
  • Commitment to Oxfam’s equal opportunity and gender policies. Demonstrated experience of integrating gender and diversity issues into finance.
  • Flexibility in terms of travel and working hours.
  • Willingness to travel including medium/high-risk areas
