Amref Health Africa, the largest African led international organization on the continent, provides training and health services to over 35 countries in Africa. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa now delivers preventive, community-based health care.

Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia delivers programs on maternal health, Child health, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Disease prevention and Control, clinical outreach, Emergency response and Nutrition, and developing human resources for health and Operational Research. The training and the clinical outreach programs are being implemented nationally across all regions of the country.

Through its WASH program, Amref works to ensure access to and utilization of sustainable and improved WASH services by creating access to safe, affordable and adequate water supply, improved sanitation and hygiene services delivery and institutional capacity development. We address the root economic problems of the community by integrating WASH interventions with nutrition, livestock development, income generation and livelihood opportunities. We deliver all our WASH services in close collaboration with Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Ministry of Health and their respective regional government bureaus, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities.

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit a technical Program Assistant for its “Transforming socio-health problems in Ethiopia into income opportunities to discourage irregular immigration “in Addis Ababa city administration.The job holders will be based in Addis Ababa and reports to the regional / program manager

 Purpose of the Job:  

The main purpose of the job is to implement Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia’s “Transforming socio-health problems in Ethiopia into income opportunities to discourage irregular immigration” project which mainly focuses on promoting to increase job opportunities for young unemployed potential migrants, with particular attention to the sanitation and waste management sector and ensure an improvement in the socio-economic situation of young potential migrants, through the development of specific technical skills that can be used on the job market in Addis Ababa

She/he will reports to the regional / program manager and works with the other project staffs to implement the project in Addis Ababa.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·         Preparing  weekly, monthly and quarterly detail implementation work plan

·         Represent Amref in WASH coordination and technical working groups

·         Develop and review donor and government reports, human interest stories and proposals

·         Participate in annual and WASH strategic plans

·         Facilitate w/shops, prepare and provide project and program presentations and trainings

·         In collaboration with the project and other AMREF staff, participate in operation and empirical  research

·         Implement the project activities together with the project and partners staffs, and the local government

·         Consult and facilitate site selection construction activities

·         Conduct supervision, evaluations and spot-checks to the project activities

·         Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly plan to the project/program manager.

·         Collect, analyses, report and present information on WASH and Migration.

·         Conduct and facilitate meetings with WASH groups/associations, hygiene promoters, solid waste management groups, income generation groups and other relevant stakeholders.

·         Lease with partners and stakeholders for effective program coordination

·         Keep the necessary documentation, inventories, list  and any program relevant information

  • Develop lesson learnt and best practice documents, history books, visual and audio materials of project works
  • Work with other colleagues and show case Amref’s works on relevant platforms
  • Ensure consistent and quality project implementation using organizational resources and other techniques

·         Perform any other assignment as requested by the supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competencies:

·         BSC in Environmental health science, Public health, Health officer, other WASH/health sciences  MSc. is preferred

·         Additional training on WASH, entrepreneurship, business development and gender is an advantage.

·         2-4 years’ or more experience, preferably on WASH project implementation in an NGO context

·         Good communication skills in Amharic and English

·         Knowledge and experience of Addis Ababa WASH & waste management

·         Interpersonal skills

  • Should be a team player and observe deadlines.

·         Excellent computer skills: Microsoft and other applications

·         Data gathering and report writing  skills

Terms of employment: 1 year with possibility of extension based on availability of fund and performance
