About Deborah Foundation

Established in 2019 Deborah Foundation is a registered non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of children with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities through support in the areas of Health, Education and Policy Advocacy.

Summary

The Foundation strives to create a lasting change within the Ethiopian community through increased advocacy, quality health service, inclusive education, and building a strong policy infrastructure that is more inclusive for children and youth diagnosed with Down Syndrome in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of children with intellectual disabilities to identify their physical needs and limitations.
  2. Develop individualized physiotherapy treatment plans based on assessment findings, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  3. Implement evidence-based physiotherapy interventions, techniques, and exercises to improve motor skills, mobility, coordination, and physical function.
  4. Monitor and evaluate the progress of children undergoing physiotherapy interventions, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  5. Provide education and guidance to parents/caregivers on appropriate home exercises, adaptive equipment, and techniques to support the child’s physical development.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  7.  Participate in team meetings and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of intellectual disability and physiotherapy.
  8. Adhere to ethical and professional standards, ensuring confidentiality and respect for the rights of children and their families.
  9. Contribute to research activities and program development initiatives related to intellectual disabilities and physiotherapy.

About You

Qualification:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
  2. Strong knowledge of neurodevelopmental and motor disorders associated with intellectual disabilities.
  3. Familiarity with evidence-based physiotherapy interventions and techniques for children with intellectual disabilities.
  4. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate physiotherapy interventions effectively.
  5. Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and engage with children and their families.
  6. Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with children with intellectual disabilities.
  7. Proficiency in written and spoken Amharic and English language.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying updated with the latest research and practices in the field.
