Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA) is an autonomous not-for-profit and non-political organization that has been operating in Ethiopia since 1974, with registry number 0495. Its overall objective is to advance the veterinary profession, promote the public interest, and advocate for a quality and competitive livestock industry in Ethiopia. EVA envisions becoming one of the top 5 professional associations in Ethiopia and 10 in Africa by 2026. It possesses extensive experience in policy support, capacity building, partnership, development, and execution of various projects funded by large international organizations such as the European Union, USAID, etc.
Recently, EVA launched the implementation of the EU-funded RESTORE project in 8 Ethiopian Regions to improve livestock health and economic stability of the communities severely affected by natural and man-made crises. The project is a joint venture to be implemented in partnership with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Regional States, with a broader private sector involvement.
Therefore, EVA is looking for competent, committed, and professional staff to oversee the effective implementation of the RESTORE project’s EVA-led components.
Project Summary
The RESTORE project is an EU-funded, 4-year comprehensive initiative aimed at revitalizing livestock health and productivity through restoration of animal health facilities, fostering public-private partnerships, and enhancing animal feed production/management within 8 Regional States of Ethiopia. By improving livestock health and productivity, the project aims to significantly contribute to the livelihoods and economic stability of the local communities.
Position Summary
The Project Coordinator (PC) will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the RESTORE project. This role requires ensuring that all project goals and objectives are achieved within the stipulated timeframe and budget. The PC will lead project planning, execution, resource management, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring effective project implementation and compliance with donor regulations.
Main duties and responsibilities
The incumbent (position holder) shall undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
Project Management
- Coordinate overall project activities to ensure effective and efficient implementation as per the approved work scope, timeframe, and budget limits.
- Coordinate the preparation of project deliverables, including annual work plans, quarterly and annual reports, final project reports and project activity updates, and other project-related communication and reporting materials in accordance with the donor deadlines.
- Adapt project plans as necessary to accommodate changing circumstances or new opportunities.
- Participate in appraising new projects and other institutional duties under the guidance of EVA’s General Manager and management unit
Staff Management
- Supervise the project’s technical staff and ensure that clear roles, responsibilities, and lines of communication are maintained among the team members.
- Oversee the recruitment and deployment of project staff in compliance with EVA’s procurement policy.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to project staff to enhance their technical skills and knowledge towards achieving project objectives.
- Create and sustain a working environment of mutual respect and team spirit where team members strive to achieve excellence.
- Promote integrity, transparency, and accountability throughout the project execution period
Financial/Budget Management
- Manage the project’s financial priorities, including the planning and budgeting processes, to ensure efficient and transparent use of resources;
- Support the project finance team during expenditure reports and forecasts to make sure compliance with donor requirements.
- Oversee procurement processes in a timely and cost-effective manner
Representation and Partnership
- Represent EVA on stakeholder/partner meetings, workshops, and consultations.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, development partners, private sector entities, etc.
Monitoring and Evaluation
In collaboration with project staff, implementing partners and stakeholders:
- Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess project progress, impact, and outcomes.
- Conduct regular field visits to ensure compliance with project objectives.
- Analyze data and prepare detailed reports on project performance, including best lessons/learning, areas for improvement, opportunities, etc.
Reporting and Supervision
- Prepare and submit comprehensive progress reports to the national program coordinator, steering committee, and donors;
- Ensure that all reports are accurate, timely, and meet the standards required by stakeholders.
- The RESTORE project coordinator will discharge his responsibilities under the guidance of EVA’s General Manager and the Executive Management Board. S/he will report project updates to these management units, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies.
Other Duties
- Undertake any other duties of EVA as may be assigned by the CEO and/or the Executive Board.
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project intervention regions.
Terms of Employment: Fixed term for 48 months

About You
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Advanced degree (MSc or above) in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of demonstrated relevant professional experience in handling animal health, food security, agriculture/rural development, or related sectors.
- Experience and technical knowledge in designing/implementing and managing donor-funded development projects in livestock and agricultural productivity, etc.
- Previous experience with the technical implementation and/or management of EU/EDF or USAID/BHA projects is advantageous.
- Significant knowledge of compliance, rules, and regulations/guidelines is a plus.
- Better understanding of the private sector in livestock development, including proven experience in developing and implementing public-private partnerships (PPP) in the veterinary domain.
- Proven track record of senior leadership, staff management, and technical capacity to build high-level relationships with government authorities and other stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of the Ethiopian livestock policy, strategies, and overall management practices and challenges to the livestock sector.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing training and workshops related to business skills development and/or livestock commercialization.
