Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is a non-governmental, apolitical, non-religious consortium of 80 Women/Girls and Children-focused local CSOs that are engaged on women and girls Empowerment and advancement of Gender Equality in all regional states and city administrations of the country. It was established in 2010 as a consortium to empower and voice the voice of its beneficiaries and member CSOs as well as capacitate and coordinate the efforts of member CSOs for the realization of their common goal, which is ensuring gender equality, and empowerment of women, girls, and children.

Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is pleased to announce a vacancy for the following post. We are seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to join our team in supporting the implementation of a vital food security project in the Amhara Regional State, specifically in the South Wollo Zone, Tehuledere Woreda. This project is generously funded by BMZ through Welthungerhilfe Ethiopia (WHH).

Duty Station: UEWCA Head Office, Addis Ababa

Salary: Based on the organization’s salary scale

Contract Duration: One year, with the possibility of extension based on performance

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Officer will play a key role in ensuring the successful implementation of UEWCA’s food security project. Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Project Coordination: Lead the coordination and implementation of project activities, ensuring they align with UEWCA’s overall project objective.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, partner organizations, and community representatives, ensuring smooth collaboration throughout the project.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor the project’s progress against set objectives and timelines, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and preparing timely reports for internal and external use.
  • Capacity Building and Community Engagement: Facilitate capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering local communities, ensuring inclusive participation and gender-responsive approaches in all activities.

About You

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Food Security, Development Studies, or a related social science field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 (three) years of NGO experience in project management, preferably in the fields of food security, agriculture, social accountability, productive safety net, and rural development. Experience working in collaboration with government institutions, donors, and community-based organizations is essential.

Skills:

  • Strong project management skills to coordinate and implement project activities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in Amharic and English for reporting, liaising with stakeholders, and presenting project updates.
  • Proficient in report writing, ensuring clear and detailed documentation of project progress and outcomes.
  • Solid monitoring and evaluation (M&E) skills, with experience tracking project performance, identifying challenges, and recommending adjustments.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to problem-solve and provide innovative solutions to project-related challenges.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management, ensuring that project resources are effectively allocated and utilized.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong leadership qualities when needed.
