General roles and responsibilities

SSWs will be responsible for coordinating, overseeing and supporting case management activities in their respective Kebele. SSWs will work closely with CCC/CCs to prioritize and select the most vulnerable households. Once households have been selected, they will assign each household to a CW and will mentor and support the CW in enrolling each household, assessing their needs, and developing a care plan with the family. SSWs will also support CWs during individual and group follow-up meetings with families. Each SSW will mentor and supervise 20 CWs/ 400 Children. The intensity of the mentoring and support SSWs provide to each CW will depend on the CW’s level of experience and the level of risk of families in the CW’s caseload. SSWs will be more actively involved in cases where children/families are at very high risk and the CW is not very experienced. SSWs will also be responsible for reviewing and compiling the information submitted by CWs and submitting it to the LIPs.

Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring, coaching, and supervising Case Workers to provide quality of services to OVC and CG
  • Facilitate identification of vulnerable children and caregivers in collaboration with CCCs and CWs.
  • Conduct and support different household assessments including household HIV/AIDS and economic vulnerability; needs and strength assessment; and HIV risk assessment.
  • Support development of care plan for each household to improve their situation.
  • Manage data entry to ensure real time data use by utilizing eCM/CommCare.
  • Facilitate access to services in the care plan through referral and direct support and ensure that families are on track to achieve healthy, stable, safe and schooled benchmarks of OVC.
  • Monitor and report about the situation of target children and families; and
  • Support and conduct graduation readiness assessment of each household as required
  • Facilitate closure of cases as per the OVC guidance up on case plan achievement/transfer/ attrition
  • Support CCC in documentation, timely reporting, local resource mobilization, service coordination and the use and management of case files at Kebele level
  • Support, supervise and mentor all caseworkers under his/her kebele/catchment areas

About You

     Minimum requirements for Social Service Workers 

  • A bachelor’s degree/diploma in social or health science field
  • 0 to 2 years’ experience 
  • Preferably resident of Hawassa and familiar with local administration
  • Able to understand and use case management forms and tools
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills and comfortable to work with children, households and kebele administration
  • No history of child abuse, crime or substance abuse and who has good reputation by community and local administration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
