About the Job

Background

Fikir Ethiopia National Association of Intellectual Disabilities (FENAID) secured a grant on the project entitled “Enhancing access to Inclusive Education for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities at Primary School” for a period of one year (November 2024- October 2025) with a possibility of extension. The overall objectives of the project are:

  • Strengthening civic actors’ capacity to address challenges with access to education for persons with intellectual disabilities in Addis Ababa
  • Fostering multi-stakeholders’ partnership and engagement to address challenges with access to education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the technical implementation of the project
  • Provide technical advice; ensure synergies with other team.
  • Participate on project meetings, project review and/or evaluation meetings.
  • Ensure that the terms of the project and the donor’s rules are followed.
  • Ensure that FENAID policies and other internal standards are properly implemented and followed
  • Steer the project’s intervention strategy and propose changes if the objectives change or if they are unlikely to be met.
  • Ensure that activities and the associated resources are planned and implement the action plan.
  • Ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with the project activity plan and the budget.
  • Maintain project monitoring, particularly activity progress indicators and expected outcomes.

Coordinate implement the monitoring and reporting of the project inclusive education part

  • Manage the process of monitoring the project implementation of activities
  • Prepare monthly reports, focusing on results, output, and outcomes.
  • Write internal and external progress reports.

Manage inter-organization coordination to achieve a coherent and aligned presence in the area of inclusive education 

  • Provide substantive technical support to the Office Management related activities by attending meetings, events, and participating in groups and committees.
  • Coordinate with implementing partners, cluster members, government  offices,      to ensure the project’s      success and  harmonized and aligned with other FENIAD efforts;

Lead advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts

  • Represent FENAID in meetings and policy dialogues on issues related to persons with  intellectual disabilities inclusive education contributions and programs
  • Manage advocacy strategies and their implementation.
  • Identify best practices and lessons learned to guide project improvement
  • Participate  and lead in cluster and civic actors meetings to increase FENAID’s external influence.
  • Communicate about the project to partners, authorities, and stakeholders when relevant

About You

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, inclusive/special needs education, or education.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation as project officer.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in education, preferably in inclusive education or education that supports children and youth.
  • Experience working on USAID projects and/or NGOs in implementing inclusive education and children and youth support projects.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, children with disabilities, specifically children with intellectual disabilities, and rehabilitation
  • Experience facilitating and delivering trainings, preferably in inclusive education.
  • Experience in the preparation of educational materials, i.e., easy read materials
  • Previous experience working with civic actors and clusters in the field of inclusive education is desirable.
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office packages
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English and Amharic languages.
