Job Description for Database Developer

REACH Ethiopia is a legal entity established as a local non-governmental organization under the law of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia by Proclamation no. 1113/2019, licensed and bearing Certificate No: 3020 from Ethiopian Authority for Civil Society Organizations. REACH Ethiopia invites interested individuals, with the experience of Database development to overtake the following responsibilities.

The database developer will be responsible for developing, testing, improving, and maintaining the new organization’s web-based databases to help staff and stakeholders retrieve data effectively. In addition, s/he will be responsible for developing, testing, improving, and maintaining customized human resource e-recruitment systems for the organization. S/he will report to both the Planning and M&E Director and Software Engineer.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Deliver two important projects: a web-based project tracking database and the development or customized e-recruitment system for REACH Ethiopia.
  • Examine and evaluate current systems, including hardware, software, and network features, and plan new systems that address any issues with the current systems.
  • Communicating with management, employees, and users and identifying system requirements and tracking additional requirements and features
  • Report on all improvements made, as well as any setbacks
  • Produce specifications for new or modified systems
  • Design, implementation, and deployment of agile software
  • See through a project from conception to finished product
  • Develops business web applications by utilizing modern application development platforms
  • Work with development teams and product managers to brainstorm software solutions
  • Design front-end and back-end website architecture
  • Build the front-end of applications through appealing visual design and design user interactions on web pages
  • Develop and manage well-functioning databases and servers for required functionality
  • Design and write effective APIs.
  • Ensure responsiveness and efficiency of applications
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software
  • Create security and data protection settings
  • Build features and applications with a mobile responsive design and ensure cross-platform optimization for mobile phones
  • Work alongside graphic designers, data scientists, and analysts to improve software
  • Stay up to date with advances in web application development technologies
  • Write technical documentation as required.
  • Perform any other relevant activities as assigned by the supervisor.

Deliverables and Proposed Start Date 

  • Proposed start: January 20, 2025
  • Deliverable: Projects Database and e-recruitment system with user’s manuals

Type of Contract

  • Short-term, for three months

About You

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or engineering
  • At least Four (4) years of relevant work experience building large-scale software applications
  • Experience building web applications
  • Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of ASP.NET Core (C#), MS SqlServer, Angular/React, and Javascript
  • Experience implementing and using modern web development workflows and operations using git, including GitHub
  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills
  • Unit/integration testing experience
  • Working knowledge of web user interface design (UI).
