About the Job

SOS Sahel Ethiopia obtained financial support from overseas private donor to implement a project entitled: “Livelihood Improvement for Rural Women (LI-4RW) Project” in three rural kebeles of Dodola District, in West Arsi Zone in Oromia Regional StateThe project objective is to contribute to the strengthening of improvement of the livelihood security status of the target rural women. The project intervention will last from 01, January 2025 to 31, December 2028.

SOS Sahel Ethiopia is seeking to employ interested, qualified, & experienced individual for the job position mentioned hereunder:             

Number of Position:   1(one)

Duty Base:   Dodola Town
Job Purpose / Summary:

The Community Development Officer is responsible for the program implementation in the respective kebeles. The officer is accountable to the Program Manager and responsible for the follow-up of LI-4RW project resources and handles communication with the project stakeholders.

 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Together with the government partners assist Communities and Community Based Organizations/ Cooperatives in project activity planning, formulation of implementation strategies and action plans and have these carried out and followed up in the field,
  • Ensure timely supply of project inputs (e.g. seeds, tools, materials) necessary to carry out the community action plans,
  • Ensures that project outputs and activities are monitored, and data (project achievement indicators) recorded in such a way to permit evaluation and assess impacts,
  • Ensures that the process and methods followed in implementing project activities are in line with agreed project strategy and methodology and activities accomplished and outputs achieved and results documented,
  • Surveying, compiling and reporting of the situation (production conditions, agricultural activities, and any development related these) in the project implementation sites and target kebeles on monthly basis and based on a format to be developed and provided by the project,
  • Be responsible and take the lead role for facilitating the inclusion and equal participation of women and marginalized minority groups in all the project activities,
  • Facilitate and ensure local government partners and communities are informed and continuously updated about the intervention and contributing their part,
  • Facilitate and ensure the proper targeting and registration of beneficiaries  and keep record of list of beneficiaries,
  • Actively participate and support communities in designing Participatory Monitoring & Evaluation system and its implementation,
  • Encourage and ensure timely implementation of the project action plans,
  • Report any new development that requires to the attention of the project leader,
  • Respect and promote SOS Sahel Ethiopia’s core values, principles, policies and procedures.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

 

Salary & Benefits:        As per SOS Sahel Ethiopia salary scale and benefit packages policy.

About You

Qualifications:        

 

  • B.Sc or MSc in Agriculture, Agri Business, Agricultural Economics, or related fields of studies with minimum of 5 or 3 years prior work experience respectively preferable in the NGO.

     

Skills and competencies 

 

  • Previous work experience as a market facilitator and rural extension services;
  • Knowledge and competence of participatory approach and multi-stakeholder engagement facilitation,
  • Gender sensitiveness, inclusiveness, sense of equity and ability to engage and work with young people,
  • Good command of written and spoken English and local language (Afaan Oromoo),
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines,
  • Motorbike riding skill with renewed license

Required Skills

  • Adaptability
  • Effective communication and sociability

NB*:           Knowledge of local languages – Afaan Oromo is mandatory
