Brief description of the project/ unit

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development dedicated to shaping a future worth living around the world. As a public-benefit federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government – in particular the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – and many public and private sector clients in achieving their objectives in international cooperation in around 120 countries.

Since 2004, GIZ has been a reliable and trusted partner of the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With more than 200 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialised institutions and agencies, such as the Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 35 member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Governance and Migration, Sustainable Economic Growth and Employment, as well as Health and Social Development.

The Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa (SLGA) programme of the GIZ-AU has been working to improve expertise on land governance on the continent. SLGA supports the implementation of the AU Agenda on Land. The overall objective of SLGA is to strengthen the human and institutional capacities required to realize sustainable land policies that pay attention to the rights of marginalized groups such as small-scale farmers, pastoralists and women across Africa.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Knowledge management

  • Support file organization (renaming, classification), knowledge management processes, and file migration to the designated storage system.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of project knowledge products and resources.
  • Ensure proper version control and metadata tagging for all files.
  • ⁠Extract and synthesize information from completed surveys and assist development of knowledge products.
  • Take meeting notes during knowledge exchange sessions and draft briefing points for knowledge product development.

    2. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Support the data collection, coordination, and drafting of monitoring and evaluation reports.
  • Analyze reports and data to provide actionable insights for informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate the implementation of findings and recommendations from internal and external evaluations.
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the results-based monitoring system.

    3. Communication

  • Coordinate and promote events and initiatives.
  • Support in creating and managing content for social media, newsletters, and the website while enhancing NELGA’s visibility through proactive social media monitoring.
  • Support layout design for communication materials while ensuring brand consistency.
  • Provide suggestions for improving communication strategies based on current trends and feedback.
  • Assist in the production of communication products/materials for workshops, conferences, and related events.

    4. Administrative and logistics

  • Assist with logistics, agenda preparation, and coordination with stakeholders for organizing meetings, workshops and other engagements.
  • Support event-related activities, including flight and hotel bookings, and preparation of visa support letters for project staff and partners.
  • Assist in the procurement of goods and services.
  • Aid in managing assets inventory and related tasks.
  • Support any other activities as required.
About You

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in programme management, media studies, journalism and communication, international relations, political science, land governance or a related field.
  • Only applicants that have recently graduated will be considered.

Professional experience

  • No professional experience required, however, previous internships are considered an asset

    • Basic layout and graphic design skills; experience utilizing Adobe or Canva are an asset.
    • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and software applications tailored for designing of communication materials.
